Bone Surface Reconstruction and Clinical Features Estimation from Sparse Landmarks and Statistical Shape Models: A feasibility study on the femur [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this study, we investigated a method allowing the determination of the femur bone surface as well as its mechanical axis from some easy-to-identify bony landmarks. The reconstruction of the whole femur is therefore performed from these landmarks using a Statistical Shape Model (SSM).

Modeling, analysis and simulation of the human femur: prosthesis of femur head [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2007
AbstractWe report the results obtained when carrying out the analysis of the strengths and strains that take place when prosthesis of femur head are implanted in the human femur. The modeling is made with tools provided by Computer Aided Geometry Design, using Non Uniform Rational B‐Splines representations (NURBS).

From 2D to 3D gamma passing rate tolerance and action limits for patient‐specific quality assurance in volumetric‐modulated arc therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) requires an accurate patient‐specific quality assurance (PSQA) program. In clinical practice, this is usually performed using the γ‐index and the two‐dimensional gamma passing rate (2D %GP). A three‐dimensional (3D) index incorporating the patient anatomy could be more useful for the 3D dose ...

Geometric and dosimetric evaluation of a commercial AI auto‐contouring tool on multiple anatomical sites in CT scans

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Current radiotherapy practices rely on manual contouring of CT scans, which is time‐consuming, prone to variability, and requires highly trained experts. There is a need for more efficient and consistent contouring methods. This study evaluated the performance of the Varian Ethos AI auto‐contouring tool to assess its potential integration into

What is the role of core decompression in the early stages of osteonecrosis of the femoral head? Evaluation of the surgical result by functional score and radiological follow-up

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ortopedia
Objectives: This study is aimed at evaluating whether core decompression of the femoral head in the early stages of femoral head osteonecrosis improves patients' subjective perception of pain and avoids the progression of the disease to a femoral head ...

Fraction-variant beam orientation optimization for non-coplanar IMRT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Conventional beam orientation optimization (BOO) algorithms for IMRT assume that the same set of beam angles is used for all treatment fractions. In this paper we present a BOO formulation based on group sparsity that simultaneously optimizes non-coplanar beam angles for all fractions, yielding a fraction-variant (FV) treatment plan.
