[Magnetic resonance in the study of aseptic necrosis of the femur head].

Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head is a common clinical problem due to the frequent use of corticosteroids and to the high incidence of hip fractures from osteoporosis and traumas. In order to demonstrate MR diagnostic capabilities, 31 patients (62 hips) were studied with MR imaging, CT, and conventional radiology.

[Treatment results in aseptic necrosis of the femur head].

Between 1.01.1987 and 31.12.1997, 40 patients (52 hips) were diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH) and treated in the Emergencies Hospital of Iaşi. ANFH was detected by clinical findings, plain radiographs and computed tomographic scans.

The article reports on two cases of a typical necrosis of the head of the femur, known as "idiopathic necrosis of the femoral head". Hyperuricaemia was present in both cases. In the first female patient, scintigraphy showed accumulation of activity unilaterally in the region of the ankle joint without any pathological x-ray finding in that region.
