Geological-geophysical models of the crust for the White Sea region

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2020
The study of the White Sea region and the adjacent area aimed to model the structure of the crystalline portion of the crust at the contact of the northeastern slope of the Fennoscandian Shield and the Russian Plate.

Weichselian history of the Fennoscandian Ice Sheet centre, Kvarken archipelago, western Finland—flow shifts, thermal regime and deglaciation

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Rapid thaw of the Earth's cryosphere in response to anthropogenic warming highlights the need to identify and understand the contrasting signatures of past ice‐sheet stability and collapse. The Kvarken archipelago, western Finland, at the centre of the former Fennoscandian Ice Sheet (FIS), has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in recognition

Radiolysis and Fe‐Biotite Alteration: Questioning the Origin of H2‐Bearing Fluid Inclusions in the Yorke Peninsula Granites, South Australia

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Multiple drillings in the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, recently confirmed the presence of natural hydrogen (H2) in shallow sedimentary units. While radiolysis and Fe‐oxidation in the basement are potential generation mechanisms, their respective contributions remain unconstrained.

Evaluation of deep geothermal exploration drillings in the crystalline basement of the Fennoscandian Shield Border Zone in south Sweden

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2021
The 3.1- and 3.7-km-deep FFC-1 and DGE-1 geothermal explorations wells drilled into the Precambrian crystalline basement on the southern margin of the Fennoscandian Shield are evaluated regarding experiences from drilling, geological conditions, and ...

Paleoproterozoic Metamorphism of the Archean Tuntsa Suite, Northern Fennoscandian Shield [PDF]

open access: yesMinerals, 2020
The Tuntsa Suite is a polymetamorphic Archean complex mainly consisting of metasedimentary gneisses. At least two strong metamorphic events can be distinguished in the area. The first took place at high temperatures in the Neoarchean at around 2.70–2.64 Ga, indicated by migmatisation and U-Pb ages of metamorphic zircon.

Palaeoenvironmental evolution of the Baltic Sea basin during the Last Interglacial (Eemian, Mikulino stages)—a review

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 282-307, April 2026.
This review presents an investigation of the evolution of the Baltic Sea basin and its connections through the Eemian Stage, based upon sequences of marine and associated deposits from the White Sea to the Southwest Baltic, via the Karelian channel. Pollen analyses, foraminiferal and ostracod analyses provide the evolution of relative sea‐level change,

Komatiitic explosive volcanism and its tectonic setting in Finland, the Fennoscandian (Baltic) Shield [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, 1990
The variously explosive komatiitic volcanism in Finland was virtually confined to the Archaean continental segment, where it occurred in the Lapland and Kuhmo‒ Suomussalmi greenstone belts between 3.0 Ga and 2.5 Ga, in the continental borderland at 1.97 ...

Holocene subaqueous landslide dynamics in the Lake Siljan‐Orsasjön Basin, south‐central Sweden

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
Subaqueous landslide areas studied by multibeam bathymetry, sub‐bottom profiling and sediment coring reveal complex stratigraphies, suggesting mass movement events starting close to the area's deglaciation and up to very recent times. Abstract The Siljan‐Orsasjön Basin in south‐central Sweden hosts two prominent lakes.

A Two‐Part Framework for Depth to Bedrock Prediction and Uncertainty Assessment in Sweden

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 77, Issue 2, March–April 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate mapping of depth to bedrock (DTB) in complex post‐glacial landscapes is challenging due to high spatial variability and the prevalence of bedrock outcrops, which introduce “structural zeros” that violate standard regression modelling assumptions.
