Biological potential of Lophosoria quadripinnata fern extract: integration of UHPLC/ESI/QToF/MS analysis, antioxidant activity, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Lophosoria quadripinnata (J.F.Gmel.) C.Chr., a fern species from the Dicksoniaceae family, is widely distributed in Central and South America. This study aimed to identify the bioactive compounds in the aqueous extract of L.

The Flora Malesiana Account of Grammitid Ferns (Polypodiaceae)

open access: yesSibbaldia, 2018
Fourteen genera and approximately 373 species of grammitid ferns (formerly Grammitidaceae, now Polypodiaceae) occur in Malesia. The Flora Malesiana account of the group is 75% complete (280 species).

NUCLEAR PARACRYSTALS IN THE FERN POLYSTICHUM SETIFERUM GAMETOPHYTE

open access: yes, 1997
Single nuclear paracrystals were observed in gametophyte cells of the fern Polystichum setiferum. They consist of proteins poor in basic aminoacids and have sharp-profiled, polyhedral shapes, with inner diameters up to 4.5 mu m.

Solar farms can mitigate negative impacts of whiplash weather on plant communities in a dryland ecosystem

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Utility‐scale solar energy (USSE) development generates novel questions regarding coupling clean energy production with terrestrial ecosystem services (e.g., forage production, pollinator support). We found that a USSE array sited in a fallowed cropland maintained a reseeded native plant community even a decade post‐restoration and that the array ...

Fern sperm release

open access: yes, 2011
Fern spores germinate into haploid fern gametophytes; small plants only a few millimeters in diameter. These gametophytes produce sperm by mitosis in small sacs called antheridia. When placed in water, the antheridium opens up, and the sperm are released.

The most threatened plants receive the least scientific attention

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Plants sustain all life, providing the energetic and structural basis of ecosystems, but they face a growing risk of extinction. Reversing this decline requires an understanding of how scientific knowledge is distributed among species, and identification of the biases and gaps that hinder effective responses to the threats they face. However, we reveal

Navigating Drivers and Barriers to the Implementation of Education for Sustainable Development at Two Swedish Business and Management Schools

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the significance of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), ESD implementation faces challenges, especially economic obstacles in a global world. This study explores the drivers and barriers to ESD implementation at two Swedish business and management schools (BMSs).

What Program for Love in the 21st Century? Thinking With and Beyond Luhmann

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT From a sociological perspective, the paper examines how normative frameworks for intimate relationships have changed since the publication of Luhmann's Love as Passion (1982). Building on Luhmann's notion of a program for love, we discuss his claim that late 20th century love semantics were organized around a program of understanding. We argue
