Rook Theory. I.: Rook Equivalence of Ferrers Boards
We introduce a new tool, the factorial polynomials, to study rook equivalence of Ferrers boards. We provide a set of invariants for rook equivalence as well as a very simple algorithm for deciding rook equivalence of Ferrers boards.

The rook numbers of Ferrers boards and the related restricted permutation numbers
The number of ways of placing k non-taking rooks on a Ferrers board Bn is obtained as a finite difference of order n - k of a polynomial of order n. Then the number of permutations of the set 1,2,...,n with k elements in restricted positions, when the ...

The citation triad: An overview of a scientist's publication output based on Ferrers diagrams [PDF]
In a recent work by Anderson, Hankin, and Killworth (2008), Ferrers diagrams and Durfee squares are used to represent the scientific output of a scientist and construct a new h-based bibliometric indicator, the tapered h-index (hT).
