RE 4Al13Pt9—New Representatives in the RE–Al–Pt System with the Ho4Ge9Ir13‐Type Structure (RE = Y, La‐Nd, Sm, Gd‐Dy)

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
The RE4Al13Pt9 series has been extended to RE = Y, La‐Nd, Sm, Gd‐Dy. The compounds have been investigated by X‐ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Of the RE4Al13Pt9 series, the RE = Ce, Pr, and Eu representatives were previously reported. In this work we extend the series to RE = Y, La‐Nd, Sm, Gd‐Dy.

Updated Chorotypes of Terrestrial Vertebrates Shed New Light on Zoogeographical Regions in China

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Chorotype represents a fundamental concept for identifying groups of species that share similar distribution patterns. However, the last comprehensive revision of animal chorotypes in China was performed more than a decade ago. Here, we update the chorotype classifications for 1040 species and propose an updated zoogeographical regionalization scheme ...

Explainable deep learning self‐supervised vision transformer for fundus‐based myopia classification

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To develop and validate a self‐supervised vision transformer (ViT) for automated three‐class classification of Normal, High Myopia (HM), and Pathologic Myopia (PM) from colour fundus photographs, with anatomically faithful interpretability. Methods A DINOv2 self‐supervised ViT was fine‐tuned using a two‐stage transfer‐learning protocol

Disciplining the “Queen of the World”? Responsible Innovation as a Way of Life

open access: yesBusiness Ethics, the Environment &Responsibility, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper offers a critical reflection on the concept of responsible innovation as defined during the last decades. We argue that the emphasis on innovation as a process risks neglecting the very goals of innovation, namely societal desirability and acceptability. Thus, we suggest reconsidering the role of imagination, the “Queen of the world”

Relics, writing, and devotion in early medieval Chelles

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, EarlyView.
The discovery in 1983 of a collection of relics with their medieval identificatory tags in the parish church of Chelles opened new avenues for research on devotional and writing practices in this Frankish royal foundation. This is the first systematic study of the corpus of relic labels that accompanied these sacred objects, particularly of the subset ...

Hybrid grading systems improve progression risk stratification in non‐invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma and support a histomorphological continuum of disease progression

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Hybrid grading systems significantly improve progression‐risk stratification in non‐invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma compared with the WHO 2004/2016 binary classification, with most benefit achieved by a Hybrid 3‐Tier framework. These findings support the existence of a histomorphological continuum of progression risk within the conventional ...

Taxonomic and methodological biases in saproxylic beetles: Body size, trophic group and detection probability

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Smaller saproxylic beetle species are described later and appear later in georeferenced databases, demonstrating a persistent body‐size bias that contributes to Linnean and Wallacean shortfalls. Trophic group, not body size, is the primary driver of detection probability in standardised flight‐trap surveys, with sapro‐xylophagous species detected most ...
