Conceptual Tapping Model of Mn-Ferroalloy Furnaces

open access: yesJOM, 2022
The tapping process of submerged arc furnaces, like the Mn-ferroalloy production process, is when you drain the liquid metal and slag from the furnace. The optimal tapping process is when slag and metal is drained from the furnace at the same rate as it ...

An Investigation of Non-Metallic Inclusions in Different Ferroalloys using Electrolytic Extraction

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Ferroalloys are integral constituents of the steelmaking process, since non-metallic inclusions (NMIs) from ferroalloys significantly influence the transformation of inclusions present in liquid steel or they are directly involved in casted steel.

Exploiting Residual Elements Arising from Scrap Steel in Future Sustainable Steel Alloy Design

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Herein, the effects of residual elements Cu and Sn on grain growth, recrystallization, and phase transformation in C–Mn steel are summarized, and a case study is presented on how the presence of residual elements can be exploited to reduce deliberate Nb microalloying while achieving the same grain size control and strength during thermomechanical ...

Method to predict alloy yield based on multiple raw material conditions and a PSO-LSTM network

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The production of ferroalloys accounts for a large proportion of the total energy consumption of the steelmaking industry. Accurately predicting alloy element yields is the key to reducing alloy waste, but there are significant differences in alloy yield

The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Additive Manufacturing of Hot Work Tool Steel by Laser Powder Bed Fusion Utilizing Powder Mixtures Including Grinding Chips: Assessing Chemical Homogeneity and Achievable Hardness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2026.
Grinding chips of high‐alloyed steel are prepared to be admixed to a starting powder mixture for laser powder bed fusion. A three‐stage preparation is performed, including washing in acetone, magnetic separation, and ball milling. The addition of 30% of grinding chips to the powder mixture allows the fabrication of dense samples.
