Dynamic Pedestrian Demand Estimation Using Data From Reidentification Sensors: A New Research Challenge

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Many cities are currently working on the development of mobility policies aimed at improving the accessibility of transport infrastructures and the intermodality in the citizen’s daily travel. Some of these policies should focus on obtaining a more sustainable modal split distribution in the access to and egress from multimodal transportation hubs. The

Cell Death Mechanisms Produced by Carbon‐Based Nanoparticles

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Using carbon‐based nanoparticles, such as diamond, graphite, fullerene, and nanotubes, has increased their research as possible strategies for drug delivery to control diseases, especially cancer. However, because these materials, when interacting with the living environment, release substances that are capable of inducing cell death by themselves, it ...

La sombra alargada del patrón: Gamonalismo y hábitos hacendatarios en Chimborazo tras la reforma agraria

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 29, Issue 4, Page 352-363, December 2024.
Abstract This paper explores selective aspects of the historical processes of organization of the kichwa peasantry in the Andes of Ecuador. Based on the analysis of two representative cases of confrontation between peasants and landowners over access to land in the province of Chimborazo, it discusses the relevance of the concept of “gamonalismo” as ...

Hydrodesulfurization of Dibenzothiophene: A Machine Learning Approach

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2024.
This work analyzes the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) process by compiling data on catalysts derived from MoS2, including their composition, structure, and experimental conditions. Using supervised machine learning methods such as regularized regression and random forest, the study estimates the conversion of DBT and the reaction selectivity.

The Separability Problem in Molecular Quantum Systems: Information‐Theoretic Framework for Atoms in Molecules

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 25, Issue 14, July 15, 2024.
We explore the mathematical underpinnings of partitioning a molecule into its constituent atoms through the Atoms‐in‐Molecules (AIM) approach, validating its applicability through concepts from Information Theory. We present information‐theoretic justifications for employing some of the most widely utilized AIM partitioning schemes in chemistry, such ...

How the Sima de los Huesos was won

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 307, Issue 7, Page 2225-2245, July 2024.
Abstract Although the first discovery of a human fossil in the Sima de los Huesos took place in 1976, systematic excavations did not begin there until 1984. Since then, this site has been continuously excavated in month‐long camps. The site is dated by different radiometric techniques to between 430,000 and 300,000 years ago.

The development of a hydrogeological conceptual model of groundwater and surface water flows in the Silala River Basin

open access: yesWIREs Water, Volume 11, Issue 1, January/February 2024.
The Silala basin hydrogeological conceptual model amalgamates geological mapping, borehole logs, satellite imagery, geophysical surveys, pumping tests, hydrogeochemical analyses, and groundwater level and surface flow monitoring. This understanding of the aquifer system, groundwater levels, hydraulic parameters, flowpaths, recharge inputs, and ...

The geomorphological and ecological functioning of the Silala River

open access: yesWIREs Water, Volume 11, Issue 1, January/February 2024.
The Silala River at the border between Chile and Bolivia is a gravel‐bed river featuring fluvial processes typical of a perennial alluvial watercourse. The entrainment and displacement length of sediments of different sizes have been studied in the field using tracers and sediment transport sampling.
