Ferroelectricity enhancement in ferroelectric nanotubes [PDF]

open access: yesPhase Transitions, 2007
In this paper we study the size effects of the ferroelectric nanotube phase diagrams and polar properties allowing for effective surface tension and depolarization field influence. The approximate analytical expression for the paraelectric-ferroelectric transition temperature dependence on the radii of nanotube, polarization gradient coefficient ...

A ferroelectric memristor [PDF]

open access: yesNature Materials, 2012
Memristors are continuously tunable resistors that emulate synapses. Conceptualized in the 1970s, they traditionally operate by voltage-induced displacements of matter, but the mechanism remains controversial. Purely electronic memristors have recently emerged based on well-established physical phenomena with albeit modest resistance changes.

The Rise of Ferroelectricity at Nanoscale: Nanoelectronics is rediscovering the ferroelectricity

open access: yesIEEE Nanotechnology Magazine, 2021
We present a comprehensive review of the emerging nanoscale ferroelectric materials used in novel nanoelectronics devices. First, we outline specific physical and electronic properties of ferroelectric materials, then we focus on two main classes of ferroelectrics based on hafnium oxide (HfO2) and 2D materials.

Hopfions emerge in ferroelectrics [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
AbstractParadigmatic knotted solitons, Hopfions, that are characterized by topological Hopf invariant, attract an intense attention in the diverse areas of physics ranging from high-energy physics, cosmology and astrophysics to biology, magneto- and hydrodynamics and condensed matter physics.

Fluid Ferroelectric Filaments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2023
AbstractFreestanding slender fluid filaments of room‐temperature ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals are described. They are stabilized either by internal electric fields of bound charges formed due to polarization splay or by external voltage applied between suspending wires.

Modulation of superconductivity by ferroelectric polarization in confined ferroelectric-superconductor-ferroelectric films [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2004
We show that the electric polarization at the interface with ultrathin superconducting (S) films sandwiched between ferroelectric (FE) layers allows achievement of substantially stronger modulation of inner carrier density and superconducting transition temperature as compared to FE-S bilayers typically used in superconducting FET's.

Ferroelectric or non-ferroelectric: Why so many materials exhibit “ferroelectricity” on the nanoscale [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Reviews, 2017
Ferroelectric materials have remained one of the major focal points of condensed matter physics and materials science for over 50 years. In the last 20 years, the development of voltage-modulated scanning probe microscopy techniques, exemplified by Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and associated time- and voltage spectroscopies, opened a pathway to

Ferroelectric negative capacitance [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Materials, 2019
The capacitor is a key element of electronic devices and is characterized by positive capacitance. However, a negative capacitance (NC) behaviour may occur in certain cases and implies a local voltage drop opposed to the overall applied bias. Therefore, a local NC response results in voltage enhancement across the rest of the circuit. Within a suitably
