Combining Magnetism and Ferroelectricity towards Multiferroicity

Solid State Phenomena, 2012
The attempts to combine both the magnetic and ferroelectric properties in one material started in 1960s predominantly by the group of Smolenskii and Schmid [1. Dzyaloshinskii first presented the theory for multiferroicity in Cr2O3, which was soon experimentally confirmed by Astrov [5,.

Ferroelectrics And Multiferroics For Next Generation Photovoltaics

Advanced Materials Letters, 2015
Growing energy crisis and environmental issues demand alternative source of green energy. In recent years ferroelectrics and multiferroics have got renewed attention for the breakthrough in photovoltaic application. Multiferroic is an appealing class of material, having two or more ferroic properties intimately coupled to each other.

Towards ferroelectric and multiferroic nanostructures and their characterisation

International Journal of Nanotechnology, 2008
We summarise here our efforts toward the fabrication and characterisation of ferroelectric and multiferroic films and structures. First, we discuss the challenges related with the fabrication and characterisation of nanostructures of functional complex oxides. In particular, to demonstrate the functionality of our films and especially of our structures,

Microwave and THz applications of ferroelectrics and multiferroics

2010 INTERNATIONAL KHARKOV SYMPOSIUM ON PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING OF MICROWAVES, MILLIMETER AND SUBMILLIMETER WAVES, 2010
Ferroelectrics and multiferroics are materials of choice when it comes to development of agile microwave components. Due to the reach variety of physical properties (tunable dielectric, acoustic, optical, magnetic) they offer integration possibility of multiple microwave functionalities on a single substrate.

Characteristics and controllability of vortices in ferromagnetics, ferroelectrics, and multiferroics

Reports on Progress in Physics, 2017
Topological defects in condensed matter are attracting e significant attention due to their important role in phase transition and their fascinating characteristics. Among the various types of matter, ferroics which possess a switchable physical characteristic and form domain structure are ideal systems to form topological defects.

Ferroelectrics, magnetoelectrics, and multiferroics

2014
As discussed at the beginning of Chapter 7, there can exist different types of ordering phenomena connected with charge degrees of freedom. Examples are ordering of charges themselves (charge “monopoles”); ordering of electric dipoles, giving ferroelectricity (FE); or ordering of electric quadrupoles, which happens in orbital ordering.

Enhanced ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity in multiferroic CuCr1−xNixO2

Applied Physics Letters, 2009
Polycrystalline CuCr1−xNixO2 is synthesized and its multiferrocity is characterized in order to enhance the ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity of CuCrO2-based multiferroics. At the optimized doping level x=0.05, we observe not only an enhancement of one order of magnitude in magnetization but also a remarkable increasing of polarization up to ∼50 μC ...

Multiferroic and Ferroelectric Rashba Semiconductors

2018
The coupling of different phenomena, such as ferroelectric or magnetic order, often mediated by spin-orbit interaction, offers a rich playground for emergent phenomena in multifunctional materials. In this chapter, we focus on multiferroics and ferroelectric semiconductors showing a strong Rashba effect, we explain the motivations behind their study ...

Intermixing and Magnetoelectric Coupling in Ferroelectric/Multiferroic Superlattices

Ferroelectrics, 2013
We develop a simple model of superlattices consisting of alternate ferroelectric and multiferroic layers with interface intermixing based on the Landau-Ginzburg theory. Multiferroic system is described using a Landau-Ginzburg potential with a positive biquadratic coupling between magnetization and polarization.
