Assessment of Seawater Nd Isotope Signatures Extracted From Foraminiferal Shells and Authigenic Phases From Volcanogenic Sediments of the Adriatic Sea

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The neodymium isotope signatures (εNd) of the authigenic fraction have been extensively used to reconstruct past seawater εNd and hydrological circulation. Among the various methods, sequential extraction of hydrogenic ferromanganese oxyhydroxides from bulk sediments represents a rapid and straightforward approach that may potentially induce ...

Palladium, platinum, and gold distribution in serpentinite seamounts in the Mariana and Izu-Bonin forearcs: evidence from Leg 125 fluids and serpentinites

open access: yes, 1992
Palladium, platinum, and gold were analyzed for 20 interstitial water samples from Leg 125. No Pd or Pt was detected in fluids from serpentinite muds from Conical Seamount in the Mariana forearc, indicating that low-temperature seawater-peridotite ...

Characterization of metalliferous sediment from a low-temperature hydrothermal environment on the Eastern Flank of the East Pacific Rise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Metalliferous deposits are described from the eastern flank of the East Pacific Rise (EPR) offshore Costa Rica, close to a basaltic seamount called “Dorado high”.

The Stability of Manganese Oxides Under Laser Irradiation During Raman Analyses: I. Compact Versus Channel Structures

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 56, Issue 1, Page 95-112, January 2025.
Mn oxides are important geomaterials widely used in various technological applications. In this work, we present our results on the behaviour of the most common Mn oxides having compact and channel structures during laser irradiation. We show that the spinel structure of hausmannite is the final degradation product of all these compounds.

Microbially Enhanced Growth and Metal Capture by Ferromanganese Concretions in a Laboratory Experiment

open access: yesGeobiology, Volume 23, Issue 1, January/February 2025.
ABSTRACT The growth and metal enrichment of ferromanganese minerals on the seafloor have intrigued many studies, yet the role of microbes in the process has remained elusive. Here, we assessed the microbial influence on the growth and trace metal accumulation and release of ferromanganese concretions from the Baltic Sea using 12‐week microcosm ...

Environmental Geochemical Behavior of Soil Ferromanganese Nodules: A Review

open access: yesYankuang ceshi
Ferromanganese nodules (FMNs), secondary products of pedogenic processes, are extensively distributed in karst regions characterized by high geochemical backgrounds and are central to explaining the apparent paradox of high total concentrations but low ...

Seawater Lead Isotopes Record Early Miocene to Modern Circulation Dynamics in the Pacific Sector of the Southern Ocean

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 39, Issue 12, December 2024.
Abstract The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) is Earth's largest current flowing around Antarctica at all depths and connecting major ocean basins, thus representing an important component of Earth's climate. However, the timing and key controls determining ACC flow path and its strength as a function of past climatic boundary conditions that ...

Lead isotope provinciality of central North Pacific Deep Water over the Cenozoic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Understanding the pre-anthropogenic Pb cycle of central North Pacific deep water has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, partly because of its unique geographical location in that it is a remote gyre system characterized by high dust fluxes ...
