The influence of plant fertilisation regime on plant-aphid-parasitoid interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This thesis examines effects of plant fertilisation regime on herbivore and parasitoid performance for two aphids, Macrosiphum euphorbiae and Myzus persicae, and one parasitoid wasp, Aphidius ervi. Herbivore performance was measured as adult fresh weight

Fertilisation of the Barberry [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1870
C. K. SPRENGEL, in his Entdeckte Geheimniss der Natur im Bau und in der Befruchtung der Blumen, gives an excellent account of the structure of the Common Barberry, Berberis vulgaris, and points out how it is visited by insects, and how, upon the touch of an insect's limb or proboscis, the irritable filaments move inwards, and press the opened anthers ...

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Intensively fertilised seedlings of the beech (Fagus sylvaticaL.) for artificial regeneration of the spruce stands in the process of conversion

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2008
Artificial regeneration of autochthonous target tree species plays an important role in the process of conversion of forest stands. The European beech is one of the most suitable and most frequently used tree species in this process.

Fertilisation of the Speedwell [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1882
IF Mr. Stapley, who wrote on this subject in last week's NATURE, can refer to Dr. H. Muller's treatise on the relations between flowers and insects, in the first volume of Shenk's Handbuch der Botanik (now publishing as part of Trewendt's Encyclopaedie der Naturwissenschaften), he will see that his own observations are very similar to those of Dr ...

Introduction: Localized Structures in Dissipative Media: From Optics to Plant Ecology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Localised structures in dissipative appears in various fields of natural science such as biology, chemistry, plant ecology, optics and laser physics. The proposed theme issue is to gather specialists from various fields of non-linear science toward a cross-fertilisation among active areas of research.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Changes of yield responses and soil test values in Finnish soils in relation to cumulative phosphorus and potassium balances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Field experiments with five rates of annual P fertilisation were carried out at 24 sites in Finland 1977-1994. A summary of the yield results was calculated on the basis of the amounts of P recommended to cereals according to STP in early 1990s.
