Photonic Feshbach resonance [PDF]
Hermann Feshbach predicted fifty years ago that when two atomic nuclei are scattered within an open entrance channel-- the state observable at infinity, they may enter an intermediate closed channel -- the locally bounded state of the nuclei. If the energy of a bound state of in the closed channel is fine-tuned to match the relative kinetic energy ...

Optical tuning of the scattering length in a Bose-Einstein condensate as predicted by Fedichev et al is demonstrated. Atoms in a /sup 87/rubidium condensate were exposed to laser light tuned close to the transition frequency to a molecular state. The optical coupling of the atomic scattering state to the molecular state gives rise to what is called an ...

Feshbach Shape Resonance in Multiband Superconductivity in Heterostructures
Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism, 2005We report experimental data showing the Feshbach shape resonance in the electron doped MgB2 where the chemical potential is tuned by Al, Sc, and C substitutions. The scaling of the critical temperature Tc as a function of the Lifshitz parameter z = EΓ−EF, where EF is the chemical potential and EΓ is the energy of the Γ critical point where the σ Fermi ...

Feshbach Resonances in Chemical Reactions
1981Publisher Summary This chapter reviews Feshbach theory and discusses applications that are developed to observe chemical reactions. The time-independent formulation was then applied to a model four-channel reaction involving two open channels interacting with two asymptotically closed channels.

A simple model of a Feshbach resonance
European Journal of Physics, 1982A simple model, suitable for student calculation and exploration, that gives rise to a closed channel or Feshbach resonance is described. The model involves delta-function shell potentials. A range of illustrative examples is presented.

Feshbach resonances in cold collisions of potassium atoms
Physical Review A, 2002In this paper we briefly review the basic steps that allow the calculation of the scattering length in the collision of two alkali-metal atoms in a well defined magnetic polarization state, and in the presence of a static magnetic field. Calculations are actually done for the low-field seeking state F = 1, \mu F = 1 of bosonic potassium atoms.

Corrections to Feshbach resonance calculations
Physical Review A, 1977The Feshbach optical-potential formalism yields resonance parameters which may differ slightly from those usually defined. By employing the definition of resonances in terms of poles of the analytically continued S matrix, corrections are derived which reconcile the two sets of parameters.

Superfluidity and Feshbach Resonances in BEC
1999The experimental realisation of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in trapped dilute alkali gases in 1995 has generated an exciting new field in physics. Since the initial experiments on 87Rb at JILA, 1 7Li at Rice University,2 and 23Na at MIT,3 many new groups have joined the BEC club, mostly in 87Rb and 23Na systems, although, condensation was recently
