Effectiveness of Exercise in Older Adults Discharged From the ER After Minor Injuries: The CEDeComS Stepped‐Wedge Trial

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 74-84, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Older adults consulting Emergency Departments (EDs) for minor injuries are at risk for new functional impairments in the 6 months following their injuries. Objective To compare the effects of exercise programs versus usual ED practices on functional status and physical performance at 3–6 months in at‐risk older adults with minor ...

Doping a semiconductor to create an unconventional metal

open access: yes, 2008
Landau Fermi liquid theory, with its pivotal assertion that electrons in metals can be simply understood as independent particles with effective masses replacing the free electron mass, has been astonishingly successful.

Where Do Older Pedestrians Experience a Risk of Being Killed in a Motor Vehicle Crash?

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 132-142, January 2026.
The Figure depicts an example of the density of all the health services within a 1‐km radial buffer of a location where a pedestrian was fatally struck in a motor vehicle crash (case location). The study finds that pedestrian fatalities among older adults were more likely to occur in areas with a high density of health care facilities.

Dimensional effects on magnetic properties of Fe-Si steels due to laser and mechanical cutting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Microstructural deterioration near the cut line and presence of residual stresses both affect the magnetic properties of cut parts. In this paper, the differences between microstructural deterioration resulting from mechanical and laser cutting as well ...

Non-Volatile Regulation of Magnetism via Electric Fields in Polycrystal FeSi/(011) PMN-0.32PT Heterostructures

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2020
The choice and configuration of the ferroelectric (FE) substrate and the ferromagnetic (FM) layer in FM/FE heterostructures play an important role in magnetism modification with regard to amplitude and efficiency.

The Changing Landscape of the Providers of Home‐Based Medical Care in Traditional Medicare

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 143-152, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background As more older adults become homebound, home‐based medical care (HBMC) has increased, but little is known about the HBMC workforce. This study analyzes national data on the size and structural features of HBMC providers from 2016 to 2022. Methods We analyzed annual primary care data for all traditional Medicare enrollees, classifying

First-order transition between a small-gap semiconductor and a ferromagnetic metal in the isoelectronic alloys FeSi$_{1-x}$Ge$_x$

open access: yes, 2002
The contrasting groundstates of isoelectronic and isostructural FeSi and FeGe can be explained within an extended local density approximation scheme (LDA+U) by an appropriate choice of the onsite Coulomb repulsion, $U$ on the Fe-sites. A minimal two-band
