Surface segregation in FeSi alloys

Surface Science, 2006
The surface segregation of a Fe 94 Si 6 and Fe 76 Si 24 alloys was studied using high resolution photoemission spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation at 150-166 eV photon beam energy. During Ar + ion sputtering and following heat treatment, a SiO 2 layer and segregation of Si atoms in three clearly resolved phases occurred. This indicates formation

Model for a strongly correlated insulator: FeSi

Physical Review B, 1995
Prompted by suggestions that FeSi may be a strongly correlated insulator, somewhat analogous to the Kondo insulators, we study the properties of a two-band Hubbard model Hamiltonian in the infinite-dimensional limit. By a calculation of the one-particle self-energy using self-consistent second-order perturbation theory we are able to calculate the ...

FeSi melting curve up to 70 GPa

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2008
Abstract The melting curve of iron monosilicide, FeSi, has been determined in a laser-heated diamond anvil cell from 6 up to 70 GPa by direct visual observation of the continuous laser-speckle motion in the liquid state. At 12 GPa and 1700 K, a discontinuous change in the slope of the melting curve indicates the first-order phase transition between ...

Electron spectroscopy study of FeSi and CoSi

Physical Review B, 1987
Electronic structures of the transition-metal monosilicides FeSi and CoSi have been studied by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy (BIS) as a function of temperature. The XPS valence-band spectra and the BIS conduction-band spectra at low temperature (\ensuremath{\sim}120 K) are in qualitative agreement ...

Spin-fluctuation theory of FeSi

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1997
The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of FeSi is calculated over a wide temperature range on the basis of spin-fluctuation theory applied to a model of an exchange-enhanced semiconductor. We can reproduce the low-temperature activation-type behaviour of the susceptibility as well as the Curie - Weiss behaviour observed at high ...

Elastic and vibrational properties of pseudomorphic FeSi films

Physical Review B, 1994
We analyze the structural, vibrational, and elastic properties of epitaxial novel FeSi films on Si(111) in the CsCl structure by Rutherford-backscattering spectrometry, x-ray-diffraction, infrared transmittance/ reflectance, and Brillouin-light-scattering measurements.

Thermoelectric properties of $$-FeSi$_{\text2}$

2013
We investigate the thermoelectric properties of $ $-FeSi$_{\text2}$ using first principles electronic structure and Boltzmann transport calculations. We report a high thermopower for both \textit{p}- and \textit{n}-type $ $-FeSi$_{\text2}$ over a wide range of carrier concentration and in addition find the performance for \textit{n}-type to be higher
