Imaging and Linking Spatial Magnetic Nanoparticle Distribution to Microbead Torques Using Soft X‐Ray Laminography

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Nanoscale 3D imaging of superparamagnetic microbeads via soft X‐ray laminography reveals the structural origin of the observed torques in cell movement experiments. These microbeads are found to have an uneven distribution of magnetic magnetite nanoparticles.

Thermoelectric properties of Co, Ir, and Os-Doped FeSi Alloys: Evidence for Strong Electron-Phonon Coupling

open access: yes, 2011
The effects of various transition metal dopants on the electrical and thermal transport properties of Fe1-xMxSi alloys (M= Co, Ir, Os) are reported. The maximum thermoelectric figure of merit ZTmax is improved from 0.007 at 60 K for pure FeSi to ZT = 0 ...

A Thermodynamic‐Kinetic Model for Basic Oxygen Furnace Tapping: Improved Prediction of Phosphorus and Steel‐Slag Evolution

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops a thermodynamic–kinetic model for basic oxygen furnace tapping and validates its accuracy under near‐equilibrium and far‐from‐equilibrium initial conditions. Comparison with a reference model demonstrates its broader applicability. The model further reveals the evolution of key steel and slag components, providing new transparency ...

Non-vanishing Berry Phase in Chiral Insulators

open access: yes, 2013
The binary compounds FeSi, RuSi, and OsSi are chiral insulators crystallizing in the space group P2_13 which is cubic. By means of ab initio calculations we find for these compounds a non-vanishing electronic Berry phase, the sign of which depends on the

Decreasing the Environmental Impact of the Electric Steelmaking Route Through Advanced Modelling Techniques

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Ensemble models are adopted to estimate the sterile content of scraps arriving to the scrap yard. Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate steel composition and temperature after Ladle furnace. The models are validated on data from two steelworks very satisfactory results and are inherently transferable to other steelworks, as they are ...

Effects of Fe/Si Stoichiometry on Formation of Fe3Si/FeSi-Al2O3 Composites by Aluminothermic Combustion Synthesis

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Aluminothermic combustion synthesis was conducted with Fe2O3–Al–Fe–Si reaction systems under Fe/Si stoichiometry from Fe-20 to Fe-50 at. % Si to investigate the formation Fe3Si/FeSi–Al2O3 composites. The solid-state combustion was sufficiently exothermic

Enhanced electron correlations in FeSb$_2$

open access: yes, 2011
FeSb$_2$ has been recently identified as a new model system for studying many-body renormalizations in a $d$-electron based narrow gap semiconducting system, strongly resembling FeSi.

Implications of the B20 Crystal Structure for the Magneto-electronic Structure of MnSi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Due to increased interest in the unusual magnetic and transport behavior of MnSi and its possible relation to its crystal structure (B20) which has unusual coordination and lacks inversion symmetry, we provide a detailed analysis of the electronic and ...

Schedule‐dependent neuroprotection by pioglitazone in a novel model of α‐synucleinopathy in rats: Integrated behavioural and histological outcomes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose α‐Synucleinopathies are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by the aggregation and propagation of misfolded α‐synuclein. In Parkinson's disease (PD), the most common α‐synucleinopathy, the progression of motor and nonmotor deficits, and dopaminergic neuron loss, are closely linked to the spreading of misfolded α‐synuclein ...
