ABSTRACT This article examines the widespread assumption that the protagonist of Goethe's Die Leiden des jungen Werthers chooses to live in ‘Wahlheim’. It is argued that this assumption cannot be reconciled with a close reading of the textual evidence. At no stage can Wahlheim be shown to be Werther's sole or main residence.

Consistent signals of a warming climate in occupancy changes of three insect taxa over 40 years in central Europe

We compare climate and land‐use‐driven occupancy changes in butterflies, grasshoppers and dragonflies in a central European region (Bavaria, Germany) over a 40‐year period. Using occupancy models, we find declines in 41% of both butterfly and grasshopper species. By contrast, 52% of dragonfly species increased.
