Is co‐existence and/or containment of genetically modified plants possible, and is it important?

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 68, Issue 6, Page 1329-1380, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Co‐existence and containment of genetically modified (GM) plants has been a contentious issue since GM technologies were first commercially released in the mid‐1990s. In the first decade of commercial GM plant use, there were a significant number of contamination incidents resulting from GM presence in non‐GM crops and seed, some with a ...

Seeding ratios and Kentucky bluegrass effects on tall fescue sod strength

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Sodding is a method that provides immediate turfgrass cover and reduces the soil erosion potential at renovated sites. Because of its rhizomatous growth habit, Kentucky bluegrass (KB) (Poa pratensis L.) produces high‐quality sod strength; however, tall fescue (TF) (Festuca arundinacea Shred.) is growing in popularity because of its superior ...

Rice yield and yield stability in long‐term rotations in temperate South America

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Understanding the long‐term impacts of crop rotation systems on rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield and stability is key to redesigning agroecosystems, optimizing management, and refining sustainable intensification strategies. This study evaluated the impacts of the rotation system and the previous crops on irrigated rice yield and its stability ...

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Poa pratensis L. cv. Qinghai (Gramineae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2020
This study provides a chloroplast genome of Poa pratensis L. cv. Qinghai. The complete genome is 135,606 bp in length with a G + C content of 38.28%, which contains 32 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that P. pratensis L.

Sod strength and rhizome characteristics of rhizomatous tall fescue

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Tall fescue (TF) [Schedonorus arundinaceus (Schreb.) Dumort.] continues to increase in popularity in the northern and transitional climatic zone of the United States because of its superior heat and drought tolerance compared to Kentucky bluegrass (KB) (Poa pratensis L.). However, most turf‐type TF cultivars have a bunch‐type growth habit that

Phenotypic and Molecular Characterisation of Silicon Uptake and Deposition in Festuca arundinacea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Silicon (Si) is taken up from the soil as monosilicilic acid by plant roots, transported to leaves and deposited as phytoliths, amorphous silica (SiO2) bodies, which are a key component of anti-herbivore defense in grasses. Silicon transporters have been
