Fetal medicine, fetal anaesthesia, and fetal surgery
2016Advances in prenatal imaging and the introduction of screening policies enable identification of high-risk pregnancies which can be followed up more meticulously. First-trimester evaluation is also used for assessment of risk for fetal anomalies. Further investigation may reveal a fetal anomaly.

Fetal Pharmacotherapy 2: Fetal Arrhythmia
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada, 2013Typically, fetal bradycardia is defined as a fetal heart rate below 110 beats/minute and the majority of cases are caused by complete heart block. Isolated CHB in newborns is rare (1/15 000 to 1/20 000).3 However, the risk increases to 2% of pregnancies in women with anti Ro and anti La autoantibodies, regardless of maternal symptoms.4,5 Importantly ...

FETAL MOVEMENTS AS AN INDICATOR OF FETAL WELLBEING
The Lancet, 1980The value of maternal monitoring of fetal movements (FM) was assessed in 2250 pregnant women. Half of the women were taught to count FM methodically and contact the hospital if they felt less than 3 FM per hour. The controls were not given any specific instructions about counting FM. There were 8 intrauterine deaths in infants weighing more than 1500 g

FETAL BREATHING MOVEMENTS AND FETAL DISTRESS
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1979SummaryTwenty‐seven pregnancies were monitored by antenatal cardiotocographs, daily fetal movement counts and an assessment of fetal breathing activity by real time scanning, and the results of these tests were related to the development of fetal distress during the first stage of labour.

Fetal growth factors and fetal nutrition
Seminars in Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, 2013Optimal fetal growth is important for a healthy pregnancy outcome and also for lifelong health. Fetal growth is largely regulated by fetal nutrition, and mediated via the maternal and fetal glucose/insulin/insulin-like growth factor axes. Fetal nutrition may reflect maternal nutrition, but abnormalities of placental function can also affect fetal ...

In idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, the low risk of fetal bleeding in the perinatal period does not justify routine cordocentesis. Platelet counts of second newborns correlates well with that of their siblings. In neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, the initial platelet count at cordocentesis in the second trimester is low in the next pregnancy ...

The advances in fetal therapy including endoscopic approaches and the advent of safer anesthetic techniques has led to the intrauterine management of potentially lethal diseases or diseases associated with high morbidity. This review will elicit certain newer techniques for fetal therapy including their application and complications.

The fetus can hear during the last trimester of pregnancy. Consistent responses to acoustic stimuli have been observed from 28 weeks onwards. Animal experiments as well as investigations in the human lead to the conclusion that sounds from outside the mother are attenuated, but rarely by more than 30 decibels; external conversations are audible.

A vese méhen belüli funkciója csak közvetve, a méhen kívüli pedig közvetlenül életfontos. Méhen belül jelentős mértékben járul hozzá a magzatvíz mennyiségéhez. A magzatvíz kellő térfogata teszi lehetővé a magzat légzőmozgásait, amelyek a tüdő fejlődését segítik. Ezek nélkül a tüdő hypoplasiás, ami halálos lehet a világrajövetel után. Megszületés után a

Fetal Blood Sampling and Fetal Thrombocytopenia
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2009The purpose of this investigation is to determine whether fetal thrombocytopenia is a risk factor for puncture site bleeding. Three groups of fetuses either with or at known risk for thrombocytopenia were identified from a prospectively maintained data base of 1,100 procedures: alloimmune thrombocytopenia (ATP, 29 cordocenteses); unexpected ...
