Noninvasive Testing for Fetal Anemia
New England Journal of Medicine, 2000Despite the introduction of anti-D immune globulin (Rh immunoglobulin) for the prevention of anti-D red-cell alloimmunization, hemolytic disease of the newborn continues to occur because of the lac...

Fetal Hemoglobin in Neonatal Anemia
Pediatrics, 1991To the Editor.— A recent paper in Pediatrics by Bard and Prosmanne1 described an elevation of fetal hemoglobin (Hb-F) production in infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and oxygen dependency. The authors described a novel approach to the evaluation of occult hypoxemia in infants, with potential application in a wide range of ...

Myocardial performance index in fetal anemia
Prenatal Diagnosis, 2014AbstractObjectiveThe objective of the study was to examine the correlation between fetal myocardial performance index (MPI) and hemoglobin (Hb) levels.MethodsIt is a prospective study involving singleton pregnancies at risk of fetal anemia as a result of maternal anti‐D alloimmune disease. Right and left ventricle (LV) MPIs were evaluated by ultrasound

Managing the Unusual Causes of Fetal Anemia
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2019Background: Rare causes of fetal anemia requiring intrauterine transfusion (IUT) are challenging for fetal medicine specialists. Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the perinatal patterns and prognosis in a consecutive series of fetuses transfused for fetal anemia

Managing the difficult case of fetal anemia
The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2011To describe a series of complex fetal anemia cases, detail the appropriate investigations and management, and review the literature.Four cases of non-red cell alloimmunization or infective cases of fetal anemia are presented.Of the four cases presented, one was a neonatal death, one pregnancy was terminated, one case was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan

Sickle Cell Anemia and Fetal Hemoglobin
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1994Fetal hemoglobin, the predominant hemoglobin of the fetus, is good for sickle cell anemia. This hemoglobin inhibits the polymerization of sickle hemoglobin. Clinical studies have shown that at any level of fetal hemoglobin, the more that is present, the better off is the patient.

Acute posttraumatic fetal anemia treated with fetal intravascular transfusion
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1992Fetal trauma resulting in acute anemia after maternal blunt abdominal trauma is a rare but potentially lethal condition. We recently managed such a case with the use of fetal intravascular transfusion.

Contribution of fetal brain MRI in management of severe fetal anemia
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 2018Intrauterine transfusion (IUT) has changed fetal anemia prognosis. However, long-term neurodevelopmental outcome is altered in 5% of children. Our objective was to study the contribution of fetal MRI to diagnosis brain lesions in case of fetal anemia.Retrospective monocentric descriptive study from 2005 to 2016, including all patients followed for ...

Cardiovascular Evaluation of Fetal Anemia due to Alloimmunization
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2008Objective: To evaluate the cardiovascular impact of fetal anemia. Methods: We reviewed 53 echo-Doppler studies from 24 fetuses with anemia due to alloimmunization. Results: There was no difference between the severe and nonsevere anemia for heart rate, cardiothoracic ratio, and contractility ...

Fluctuation of fetal hemoglobin in sickle-cell anemia
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1976A reduction of morbidity and mortality rates in homozygous sickle-cell patients was found in those with high fetal hemoglobin (HbF) levels. This factor would lead one to believe that an adequate amount of this substance would be protective to a patient with this hemoglobinopathy.
