Evaluation of fetal cardiac morphology and function in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy using Fetal HQ technology combined with uterine artery ultrasound parameters

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
ObjectiveHypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) significantly affect both maternal and fetal health, with uterine artery hemodynamic parameters playing a critical role in assessing fetal well-being, though they do not provide early insights into fetal

When intra-partum electronic fetal monitoring becomes court business [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sadly but inevitably, the clinical fruit of all scientific research, like the profile of the Roman god Janus, presents us with two faces - one is patient benefit while the other is medico-legal vulnerability.

Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Investigating the Cellular Effects of GALC Dosing in Enzyme Replacement Therapy for Krabbe Disease Supports the Role of Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
A detailed workflow for recombinant GALC production and characterization is presented to support enzyme replacement therapy for Krabbe disease. In vitro assays demonstrate that physiological GALC doses restore enzymatic activity and autophagic flux without affecting cell viability, whereas higher doses impair autophagy and reduce viability.

Generation of a PDK-1 knockout human embryonic stem cell line by CRISPR/(WAe009-A-2K) Cas9 editing

open access: yesStem Cell Research
Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Kinase1 (PDK1) belongs to the family of kinases, regulates diverse metabolic processes. PDK1 is a susceptibility locus for heart failure via thinning of ventricle walls, and enlarged atria and ventricles.

Fabrication of a Stable, Low‐Cost, Patient‐Specific, Brain Phantom with Ventricles for Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific brain phantoms can replace animal trials, aid presurgical training, and enable in silico disease research on cerebrospinal fluid and ventricles. This study presents a method to create ventricular brain phantoms from three‐dimensional magnetic resonance images brain scans, resulting in durable, tunable, reproducible models that mimic ...
