The oxygen status of fetal blood
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1995Objective: To estimate the acid‐base and oxygen status of fetal blood and compare with maternal placental venous blood.Data sources and calculations: We selected pH and blood gas data from the literature pertaining to umbilical vein and artery blood obtained by cordocentesis and estimated values for the 30th and 40th gestational week.Average values for

Abstract A fetal blood-sample, adequate for the study of haemoglobin synthesis, can be obtained by aspiration of the anterior placenta. In a preliminary trial, the procedure was successful in 58% (eleven) of the nineteen cases and seemed to be safe.

Cytogenetic Micromethod on Fetal Blood
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 1973A lymphocyte culture method was developed that allow the use of as little as 0.01 ml of fetal blood. The yield of metaphase plates for the assessment of cytogenetic abnormalities was good. A safe way to aspirate fetal blood early in pregnancy is required, so the present method will be useful.

Fetal blood velocity waveforms
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1978In this paper a method is described for obtaining and characterizing fetal blood velocity waveforms. The signals were recorded with a range-gated Doppler instrument and characterized after spectral analysis. Preliminary observations indicate differences in the waveforms obtained during normal pregnancies compared with some complicated pregnancies.

Complications of fetal blood sampling
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993To examine the incidence and significance of complications related to percutaneous fetal blood sampling, we reviewed all the articles published in the English literature on this procedure. Risks of complications and adverse outcomes depend mainly on the gestational age at the time of the procedure, the operator's experience, and the indication for the ...

Abstract There occur occasional cases of asphyxia neonatorum in which the obstetrician, for want of other explanation, incriminates the anesthesia given at the time of delivery. The studies of Leake, 1 of Ronzoni, 2 of Raginsky and Bourne, 3 and of others, indicate that in adults the common inhalation anesthetics produce decided changes in the acid-

The assessment of fetal blood samples
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1988Fetal blood sampling under ultrasound control is rapidly expanding the study of human fetal biology. Pure fetal blood is required for prenatal diagnosis, establishment of reference ranges for biologic measurements, and assessment of fetal welfare. We present here the methods that we have developed to detect contamination in more than 1500 samples ...

Fetal scalp blood sampling (FSBS), in conjunction with fetal heart rate monitoring, is a method of fetal surveillance that may avoid cesarean delivery of the healthy fetus or indicate the need for immediate delivery of a compromised fetus. Some researchers have recently begun to question the efficacy of FSBS.
