Serological and virological analysis of maternal and fetal blood samples in prenatal human parvovirus b19 infection.

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 2012
BACKGROUND Intrauterine parvovirus B19 (B19V) infection can be asymptomatic or may cause severe fetal complications. Information on serological and virological findings of infection in the fetus is scarce.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

A New Source of Stem Cells in Amniotic Fluid and Placenta in 1st Trimester of Pregnancy

open access: yes, 2009
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) are multipotent cells found in fetal, neonatal and adult tissues. Fetal MSC have advantageous characteristics over their adult counterparts, and the regenerative potential of fetal blood MSC has recently been shown in a

In vitro biocompatibility of calcined mesoporous silica particles and fetal blood cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nanomedicine, 2012
Background: The biocompatibility of two forms of calcined mesoporous silica particles, labeled as MCM41-cal and SBA15-cal, with fetal blood mononuclear cells was assessed in vitro. Methods and results: Fetal mononuclear cells were isolated from umbilical

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Haplotypes analysis reveals the genetic basis of type I CD36 deficiency

open access: yesScientific Reports
CD36, also known as glycoprotein IV, is classified into two distinct subgroups based on the presence or absence of its expression on monocytes. The CD36 gene spans approximately 50,000 base pairs.

Hepcidin and iron homeostasis during pregnancy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Hepcidin is the master regulator of systemic iron bioavailability in humans. This review examines primary research articles that assessed hepcidin during pregnancy and postpartum and report its relationship to maternal and infant iron status and birth ...

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...
