Abstract The effects of preceding social, medical, and personal factors on pregnancy outcome have been studied through the records of 782 fetal deaths and a control sample of live births. Advantage in pregnancy survival lay with economically successful groups; disadvantage increased with advancing maternal age and multiparity.
