Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Effect of vaginal microbial infections on the efficacy of 5-aminolevulinic acid-mediated photodynamic therapy for vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
Background: Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) is a precancerous condition with significant potential for malignant transformation. The 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is considered as a novel approach to treat VAIN.

Novel PGK1 determines SKP2-dependent AR stability and reprograms granular cell glucose metabolism facilitating ovulation dysfunction

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2020
: Background: Disordered folliculogenesis is a core characteristic of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and androgen receptors (ARs) are closely associated with hyperandrogenism and abnormalities in folliculogenesis in PCOS.

Low birth weight as a potential risk factor for severe COVID-19 in adults

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The identification of factors predisposing to severe COVID-19 in young adults remains partially characterized. Low birth weight (LBW) alters cardiovascular and lung development and predisposes to adult disease.

Urinary proteomics using capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry for diagnosis and prognosis in kidney diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose of review: Urine is the most useful of body fluids for biomarker research. Therefore, we have focused on urinary proteomics, using capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry, to investigate kidney diseases in recent years.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Fetal Health State Detection Using Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Neural Networks

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Diagnosis of fetal health is a difficult process that depends on various input factors. Depending on the values or the interval of values of these input symptoms, the detection of fetal health status is implemented. Sometimes it is difficult to determine

Fetal origins of cardiovascular disease [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 1999
Low birthweight, thinness and short body length at birth are now known to be associated with increased rates of cardiovascular disease and non-insulin dependent diabetes in adult life. The fetal origins hypothesis proposes that these diseases originate through adaptations which the fetus makes when it is undernourished.

An efficient platform for astrocyte differentiation from human induced pluripotent stem cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Summary: Growing evidence implicates the importance of glia, particularly astrocytes, in neurological and psychiatric diseases. Here, we describe a rapid and robust method for the differentiation of highly pure populations of replicative astrocytes from ...
