Using isoelectric focusing, a fetal hemoglobin was found in the peripheral blood of C57BL/6 fetal mouse during the 14 to 20 days gestational period. In acid-urea polyacrylamide gel the pattern of this fetal hemoglobin was different from that of the adult hemoglobin.

Abstract Fetal hemoglobin (HbF) is a physiologic variant of the adult hemoglobin (HbA) protein. It is primarily present in the fetus. HbA has a lower oxygen affinity than HbF. A newborn’s hemoglobin transitions from HbF to HbA with 70% HbF at 40 weeks’ gestational age to almost 0% at 6 months after birth.

A molecular glue degrader of the WIZ transcription factor for fetal hemoglobin induction
ScienceSickle cell disease (SCD) is a prevalent, life-threatening condition attributable to a heritable mutation in β-hemoglobin. Therapeutic induction of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) can ameliorate disease complications and has been intently pursued.

5‐azacytidine and fetal hemoglobin
American Journal of Hematology, 1984AbstractThe evidence that 5‐azacytidine stimulates the production of Hb F and F cells in baboon and man is reviewed. The mechanism of this effect is not entirely clear, but 5‐azacytidine produces hypomethylation of the γ gene at certain sites, and gene expression and DNA hypomethylation are related phenomena in many other systems. Other mechanisms have

Fetal hemoglobin levels in adults
Blood Reviews, 1994The synthesis of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) is normally reduced to very low levels of less than 0.6% of the total hemoglobin in adults. The HbF is restricted to a sub-population of erythrocytes termed 'F-cells'; 85% of the normal adult population have 0.3% to 4.4% F-cells.

Fetal Hemoglobin Variants in Mice
Science, 1968Two strains of mice, DBA and C3H, have a fetal globin polypeptide chain which differs in electrophoretic mobility from the corresponding fetal chain of the C57B1 strain. Mice of the DBA and C3H strains also differ from those of the C57B1 in adult hemoglobin type. Results of backcrossing the (DBA × C57B1) hybrid to the C57B1 suggest that the fetal chain
