Surgically correctable fetal hydrops

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1984
Hydrops fetalis is classically the result of immune mediated intrauterine hemolysis. Increasingly, however, nonimmunologic abnormalities have been associated with fetal anasarca. A number of these are potentially surgically correctable. Four such infants have been treated at the Arkansas Children's Hospital since 1981.

Fetal hydrops: diagnosis and prognosis

Archives of Disease in Childhood, 2018
The causes and outcomes of fetal hydrops have been well described in the literature over many years. Anti-D immunoglobulin has dramatically reduced the rate (and mortality) of immune hydrops such that non-immune hydrops (NIHF) now accounts for 90% of cases.1 Hydrops is a challenging condition to counsel for due to the relative rarity (1 in 1700–3000 ...

Sonographic Diagnosis of Fetal Hydrops

Radiology, 1975
Sonograms obtained during the 32nd and 34th weeks of a pregnancy complicated by severe Rh isoimmunization demonstrated features diagnostic of fetal-hydrops-scalp and body wall edema, ascites, hepatosplenomegaly and placental enlargement. The earliest sign that can be detected sonographically is placental enlargement.

Resolving fetal hydrops – A rare entity

European Journal of Medical Genetics, 2023
Non-immune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) is abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in ≥2 interstitial spaces with no evidence of maternal red cell alloimmunization. Leaving a few treatable conditions, it is generally considered as a sign of poor fetal outcome.

Hypoalbuminemia: A cause of fetal hydrops?

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2006
The pathophysiology of fetal hydrops is still unclear. One factor that is believed to contribute to hydrops is hypoalbuminemia. Our research question was whether hypoalbuminemia in immune hydrops is causative or a secondary effect.Between 1987 and 2005, fetal blood samples were taken at the first fetal blood transfusion in 224 Rh-D alloimmunized ...

Hydrops fetal no inmune

Cardiac rhabdomyoma presenting as fetal hydrops

Pediatric Cardiology, 1986

Fetoscopy in the assessment of unexplained fetal hydrops

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1985
Summary. Pure fetal blood samples, obtained fetoscopically from 30 patients with unexplained fetal hydrops at 16 to 32 weeks gestation were investigated for cytogenetic, haematological, biochemical and virological properties. In two patients with oligohydramnios, the fetoscope was introduced transabdominally into the fetal peritoneal cavity and ...

Nonimmune fetal hydrops and down syndrome

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1983
AbstractSix infants with nonimmune fetal hydrops (NIFH) were found to have trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). A cardiac malformation was present in three of these infants. The manifestations of Down syndrome were obscured by the generalized edema at birth. The association of Down syndrome and NIFH emphasizes the need for chromosome analysis in the workup of ...
