Fetal Behavior in Preterm Premature Rupture of the Membranes

Clinics in Perinatology, 1989
Although the subject has been the focus of a large body of obstetric literature, premature rupture of the membranes and its pathogenesis, management, and incidence of sequelae remain confused and controversial. The origins of this disquieting state of affairs can be traced to the lack of a specific, narrow definition of the condition, and resultant ...

CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF PREMATURE RUPTURE OF FETAL MEMBRANES

The Lancet, 1980
Data from 6613 pregnancies that ended before term were analysed to determine whether amniotic-fluid infections are a cause as well as a consequence of premature rupture of the fetal membranes. Amniotic-fluid infections seem to be a cause of such ruptures because the infections were 2-3 fold more common when the fetal membranes ruptured just before ...

Fetal breathing movements after preterm premature rupture of membranes

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1991
Forty-three patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes were studied between 24 and 34 weeks' gestation. Intraamniotic infection was excluded by amniocentesis. There were significantly fewer fetal breathing movements for the first 2 weeks of membrane rupture, compared with controls, with a return to near normal by the third week.

[Premature rupture of fetal membranes].

Zentralblatt fur Gynakologie, 1979
Our investigations on premature rupture of the fetal membranes (PROM) show that prematurity represents a higher risk for the fetus than infection does. Therefore we tend to be expectant in case of PROM combined with prematurity. On the other hand latency between rupture of the membranes and onset of labor should not exceed 24 hours for a mature fetus ...

Fetal cardiac dysfunction in preterm premature rupture of membranes

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2004
Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is associated with one-third of preterm births. In about 50% of preterm PROM cases, the fetuses will elicit a fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS). FIRS is associated with the impending onset of preterm labor, periventricular leukomalacia, neonatal sepsis, and long-term handicap, including the ...

[Amniocentesis following premature rupture of fetal membranes and suspected premature rupture of fetal membranes in late pregnancy].

Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, 1988
Amniocentesis during the third pregnancy trimenon in case of suspected premature rupture is performed for two reasons: on the one hand, the maturity parameters can be determined as usual from the amniotic fluid, and on the other hand it serves to determine the presence of germs that may have caused the premature rupture.

PREMATURE RUPTURE OF THE FETAL MEMBRANES

MCN, The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing, 2001
Advanced practice nurses in obstetric settings are frequently required to diagnose premature rupture of fetal membranes; co-management of care with physicians is becoming more common in many health care facilities. Therefore, Advanced practice nurses must have an in-depth understanding of this potentially severe obstetric complication.

Human fetal membranes: their preterm premature rupture.

Biology of reproduction, 2001
At the 1999 annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Reproduction there were three speakers in the minisymposium entitled "I've got to get out of here: fetal-maternal interactions involved in parturition". The primary focus was on research progress in understanding the mechanisms involved in human parturition.

Premature rupture of membranes before fetal viability.

Obstetrics and gynecology, 1984
The outcome of 53 cases expectantly managed with premature rupture of membranes (PROM) before fetal viability (16 to 25 weeks) was retrospectively reviewed. Forty-one percent of patients developed amnionitis, four had prolonged hospital stays (longer than seven days), and one each had sepsis and pelvic thrombophlebitis.
