Protein Analysis in Amniotic Fluid and Fetal Urine for the Assessment of Fetal Renal Function and Dysfunction

Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 1987
Micromolecular proteins (molecular weight < 68kD) in amniotic fluid are assumed to be derived largely from fetal urinary excretion and therefore may reflect fetal kidney function and maturation. Microprotein concentrations in amniotic fluid, neonatal urine and urine of fetuses with bilateral urinary tract dilation were analyzed using microgradient ...

Maternal protein restriction and fetal growth: lack of evidence of a role for homocysteine in fetal programming

British Journal of Nutrition, 2006
The disease-programming effects of a maternal low-protein (MLP) diet in rat pregnancy have been suggested to be attributable of hyperhomocysteinaemia. The aim of the present study was to determine whether MLP feeding impacted upon maternal and day 20 fetal homocysteine concentrations, with ensuing effects upon oxidan/ntioxidant status.

Fetal proteins in various tumors.

The Japanese journal of experimental medicine, 1979
Radial immunodiffusion assay was used to measure fetal hemoglobin (HbF) concentrations in 312 patients with various malignancies. In 305 of these, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was measured by radioimmunoassay. The concentration of HbF exceeded 3 SDs above the normal mean in 68 of 312 patients, most notably in patients with leukemia, multiple myeloma ...

Proteins in the amniotic and allantoic fluids of fetal pigs

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1984
Seven proteins were identified in the amniotic and allantoic fluids of fetal pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) using crossed immunoelectrophoresis: albumin, fetuin, transferrin, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), alpha 1-acid glycoprotein, alpha 1-antitrypsin and alpha 2-macroglobulin.

Protein synthesis during hypoxia in fetal lambs

American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1987
The goal of this study was to test the hypothesis that the rate of fetal protein synthesis decreases during fetal hypoxia. Catheters were inserted into 13 sheep fetuses under maternal spinal and local fetal anesthesia. Five days after surgery, an infusion of L-[1-14C]tyrosine (0.05-0.25 muCi/min) was begun.

Antioxidant proteins in fetal brain: superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD-1) protein is not overexpressed in fetal Down syndrome

2001
Exposure of living organisms to reactive oxygen species (ROS), notably oxygen free radicals and hydrogen peroxide is closely linked to the very fact of aerobic life. Oxidants, however, are not always detrimental for cell survival, indeed moderate concentrations of ROS serve as signaling molecules.

Fetal specific serum proteins of the Indian buffalo

Veterinary Record, 1979
Fetal specific serum proteins of the Indian buffalo were investigated using rabbit antibuffalo fetal serum, absorbed with lyophilised adult buffalo serum, and subjected to gel diffusion and immunoelectrophoretic analysis. AFP was found to be the major fetal specific serum protein of the Indian buffalo.
