Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 1994
Treatment of fetal anomalies has allowed the intact survival of increasing numbers of fetuses with previously fatal or very likely fatal disorders. Percutaneous in-utero surgery for obstructed bladders and thoracic effusions, and open surgery for diaphragmatic hernias and lung malformations has become increasingly successful.

Best Practice & Research Clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2002
Over the past 40 years, a small but increasing number of fetal genetic and congenital anomalies has become amenable to in utero treatment. Successful fetal therapies have included open procedures for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, cystadenomatoid malformation of the lung and saccrococygeal teratoma, shunts for uropathies and thoracic fluids ...

In the past year, the results of the European trial comparing chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis have been published, supporting the findings of the Canadian Collaborative Study of an increased risk associated with chorionic villus sampling. The reporting of an increase in limb reduction abnormalities with chorionic villus sampling before 9 ...

Twin to twin transfusion syndrome and twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence affect up to 15% of monozygotic twin pregnancies. They can lead to miscarriage or very premature delivery, and fetal death. Intrauterine treatment is leading to an increased rate of survival of at least one twin in affected pregnancies.

Rapid advances are occurring in the diagnosis and treatment of the fetus with a red blood cell or platelet cytopenia. Noninvasive methods of monitoring the alloimmunized pregnancy, invasive methods such as amniocentesis and cordocentesis, and intrauterine transfusion therapy of both red cells and platelets, are being further refined to allow the prompt
