Abstract In utero transfusion for fetal-maternal incompatibility, first developed by Liley in 1963, has recently been improved by direct transfusion through umbilical vessels using ultrasound guidance. This same method has allowed treatment of severe thrombocytopaenia in the fetus at the end of the pregnancy.
