La Pediatria medica e chirurgica : Medical and surgical pediatrics, 1993 Fetofetal transfusion is due to the twin to twin blood shunt caused by vascular anastomoses. It has been suggested that two types of FFT exist: a chronic form existing during pregnancy, and an acute form occurring only during parturition. Cross-circulation may be demonstrated in monochorionic as well as dichorionic placentas.
