EMBRYOSCOPY AND FETOSCOPY

Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America, 1993
The introduction of transabdominal fiberoptic thin-gauge visualization of the embryo or fetus in the first trimester allows an earlier diagnosis of congenital anomalies currently beyond the resolution of ultrasound. In addition, it has the true potential of providing access to the fetal circulation at an early age, an accomplishment that would have ...

Fetoscopy in continuing pregnancies

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1977
A total of 34 fetoscopic procedures were performed in 28 patients whose fetuses were at risk for hemoglobinopathies (22 cases) or short-limbed dwarfism (three cases). An adequate sample of fetal blood for study of globin-chain synthesis was obtained in 23 of the 25 cases (92%), and valuable diagnostic information was obtained in all three cases at risk

Fetoscopy-Assisted Percutaneous Decompression of the Distal Trachea and Lungs Reverses Hydrops Fetalis and Fetal Distress in a Fetus with Laryngeal Atresia

Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2019
We present a case of prenatal hydrops secondary to congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS) that was treated with fetoscopy-assisted needle decompression. A 22-year-old G3P2 woman presented after a 21-week ultrasound demonstrated CHAOS.

Transvaginal Fetoscopy in Anterior Placentas

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1980
When the placenta is located anteriorly, fetoscopy by the abdominal route may be impracticable. An alternative route, i.e., insertion of the fetoscope through the anterior vaginal fornix, was used in 31 women in midpregnancy. Twenty‐six of the women had been admitted for therapeutic abortion; the remaining five, for diagnosis.

Infrared Fetoscopy in the Sheep

Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 1994
The strong light sources used in fetoscopy and embryoscopy may cause eye injuries to the fetus. To circumvent this potential hazard, we have successfully used an infrared light source and infrared video camera to perform 'night vision' fetoscopy in a fetal lamb model.
