Splicing of few mode fibers

2014 The European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2014
Fabrication results of three types of few mode fiber are presented including a new large area fiber. Splice performance, including splice loss and mode conversion, of the few mode fibers are evaluated.

Adaptive Mode Control in a Few-Mode Fiber

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016
We experimentally demonstrated control of guided waves at two locations within a two-mode fiber by combining adaptive optics, mode-division-multiplexing, and time-division-multiplexing. The method can be generalized to mode control at multiple desired fiber network locations.

Few-mode fibers with improved mode spacing

2015 European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2015
A simple and intuitive optimization approach is described for the design of composite rotationally asymmetric refractive index fiber profiles with substantially improved mode spacing.

Propagation effects in few-mode fibers

2017 European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2017
We review the main propagation effects that take place in fibers for Space-Division Multiplexing, focusing on their impact on system performance. We specifically address the interplay between modal dispersion (MD) and nonlinear distortions, and show that the increase in coherent MIMO-DSP complexity implied by MD is balanced by a MD-induced mitigation ...

Singlemode Soliton in Few-Mode Fiber

Advanced Photonics 2016 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2016
We demonstrate that a 5-mode fiber is able to propagate strictly singlemode soliton. Single transverse mode behavior is evidenced by means of spectrally- and spatially-resolved imaging using the soliton itself as a broadband source.

Two-Mode Coupling Model in a Few Mode Fiber

Оптика и спектроскопия, 2013
A phenomenological two-mode coupling model in few mode fibers (FMF) is developed. It uses a mode coupling coefficient and the differential modal delay as the input parameters and the split-step approach. The model is consistent with the experimental results demonstrating distributed mode coupling effects in FMF and may be used for multipath ...

Relationship between Mode-crosstalk and Fiber Characteristics in Few Mode Fibers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016
We review our recent experimental research work on mode-crosstalk in a transmission line composed of few mode fibers. We discuss the mode crosstalk at a splice point and in a fiber.

Few-mode fiber transmission with in-line few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
We demonstrate wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) and mode-division multiplexed (MDM) transmission over a fiber recirculating loop comprising of a 25-km span of low differential mode group dispersion (DMGD) few-mode fiber carrying the LP01 and LP11 mode groups, and an inline few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier (FM-EDFA) providing low mode ...

Mode-selective couplers for few-mode optical fiber networks

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2012
The excitation and separation of individual modes in a few-mode optical fiber network can be realized using mode-selective couplers. For excitation at the beginning of the fiber, two-core mode-selective couplers can be used, while at the end of the fiber, either two- or three-core mode-selective couplers are required for demultiplexing of the field ...

Mode Amplification and Nonlinear Mode Conversion in Few Mode Fibers

Frontiers in Optics 2016, 2016
We demonstrate phase sensitive and insensitive amplification and nonlinear mode conversion in few mode fibers by studying the four wave mixing effect.
