Ultra-wide band transmission in few-mode fibers
European Conference on Optical Communication, 2021Space-division multiplexing (SDM) enables the transmission of independent data channels over different fiber modes of multi-mode fibers. In this talk, we review key characteristics of devices and fibers for SDM transmission and summarize recent SDM ...

We propose a novel and highly efficient multimode waveguide grating coupler which can simultaneously launch four channels including two polarizations of the linear polarized (LP) modes, LP01 and LP11 of a step-index few-mode fiber (FMF).

Singlemode Soliton in Few-Mode Fiber
Advanced Photonics 2016 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2016We demonstrate that a 5-mode fiber is able to propagate strictly singlemode soliton. Single transverse mode behavior is evidenced by means of spectrally- and spatially-resolved imaging using the soliton itself as a broadband source.

Spatial Mode Division Multiplexing of Few Mode Fiber
European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2012The independent excitation and detection of spatial modes in few-mode fiber networks presents major challenges. This paper presents novel spatial mode-division-multiplexing techniques based on planar couplers and asymmetric Y-junctions. These developments may play a role in future high-capacity few-mode fiber telecommunications.

High Capacity Transmission With Few-Mode Fibers
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019We experimentally investigate high-capacity few-mode fiber transmission for short and medium-haul optical links. In separate experiments, we demonstrate C + L band transmission of 283 Tbit/s over a single 30 km span and recirculating loop transmission of

Few-mode fiber transmission with in-line few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier
SPIE Proceedings, 2013We demonstrate wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) and mode-division multiplexed (MDM) transmission over a fiber recirculating loop comprising of a 25-km span of low differential mode group dispersion (DMGD) few-mode fiber carrying the LP01 and LP11 mode groups, and an inline few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier (FM-EDFA) providing low mode ...

Distributed Characterization of Few-Mode Fibers Based on Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2020A novel technique to measure differential group delay and modal birefringence along few mode fibers is presented. The method relies on the analysis of the spectral correlation between two properly-selected sections of the fiber's Rayleigh-backscattered ...

Few-mode fibers for mode-division multiplexing
2013 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2013The design of few-mode fibers will be discussed from the point of view of key attributes and fundamental limitations. We will consider the maximum number of modes that might be supported in a practical fiber.
