Few-Mode Energy-Managed Soliton Fiber Laser

2025 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)
We present an all-anomalous mode-locked laser architecture combining a few-mode gain fiber with single-mode passive fibers. This hybrid fiber laser generates high-energy pulses whose features are controlled by an intracavity spectral filter. Using a 1.7-nm filter bandwidth, the laser delivers 2.5-ps pulses of 39-nJ energy and 15.6-kW peak power ...

Generation of telecom-band correlated photon pairs in different spatial modes using few-mode fibers.

Optics Letters, 2019
We experimentally demonstrate the production of photon pairs at 1555 nm in LP01 mode and at 1566.8 nm in LP11 mode, respectively, via the spontaneous intermodal four-wave mixing in a 100-m-long few-mode fiber.

Mode coupling in few-mode large-mode-area fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
We present an experimental study on mode coupling characteristics of few-mode large-mode-area (LMA) fibers, which are widely used in high power fiber lasers. The modal power allocation is measured by modal decomposition of the nearfield intensity profile of the output beam.

Stability of Ince-Gaussian beams in elliptical core few-mode fibers.

Optics Letters, 2018
A comparative stability analysis of Ince-Gaussian and Hermite-Gaussian modes in elliptical core few-mode fibers is provided to inform the design of spatial division multiplexing systems. The correlation method is used to construct crosstalk matrices that

Fused Fiber Mode Couplers for Few-Mode Transmission

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012
Space-division multiplexing (SDM) based on few-mode fibers has been studied as a promising technique to increase fiber capacity. In this letter, we show optimal design and simulation of a low-loss fused fiber mode coupler, one of the most critical enabling components for SDM transmission systems.

Complex imaging for detecting few-mode fiber modes

Advanced Photonics 2017 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, PS), 2017
We present coherent imaging for acquiring two-dimensional optical image that recovers amplitude and phase simultaneously. With coherent imaging, we detect few-mode-fiber modes with high extinction-ratio, and perform mode decomposition and differential mode delay measurement.

Few-mode fiber technology for mode division multiplexing

Optical Fiber Technology, 2017
Abstract We review recent progress on few-mode fiber (FMF) technologies for mode-division multiplexing (MDM) transmission. First, we introduce fibers for use without and with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP) to compensate for modal crosstalk, and briefly report recent work on FMF for use without/with a MIMO DSP ...

Few-mode optical fiber for mode-division multiplexing

Optical Fiber Technology, 2011
Abstract This paper describes the group delay difference and mode coupling of few-mode fiber for “uncoupled” mode division multiplexing. Optical mode separation is compatible with few-mode fiber. It has complementary characteristics with the MIMO technique.

Few-mode fibers for mode division multiplexing transmission

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
A study is presented of the fiber properties needed to achieve 10-mode multiplexing transmission. A combination of MIMO processing with optical LP mode separation is proposed to prevent the need for massive MIMO computation. The impact of mode crosstalk, differential mode delay, and the mode dependent loss of the few-mode fibers on mode multiplexing
