OMOP-on-FHIR: Integrating the Clinical Data Through FHIR Bundle to OMOP CDM
The harmonization of the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) with HL7 FHIR aims to enhance interoperability in clinical research by harmonizing diverse healthcare datasets. This process, referred to as OMOP-on-FHIR, leverages FHIR Bundles for real-time clinical data exchange and transforms these resources into OMOP CDM format using an ETL process.

PCEtoFHIR: Decomposition of Postcoordinated SNOMED CT Expressions for Storage as HL7 FHIR Resources
BackgroundTo ensure interoperability, both structural and semantic standards must be followed. For exchanging medical data between information systems, the structural standard FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) has ...

Semantic Difficulties in FHIR ‘Conditions’
One goal of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard is to prevent semantic ambiguities when patient data are electronically exchanged. To assess whether the FHIR specifications live up to this expectation, we examined FHIR’s Condition resource thereby focusing on the resource elements ‘clinical status’ and ‘verification status ...

FHIR Granular Sensitive Data Segmentation
Abstract Background Due to fear of stigma, patients want more control over the sharing of sensitive medical records. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) supported the development of standards-compliant, consent-respecting medical record exchange technology using ...

Dual Implementation Guides in FHIR and CDA
Background: The Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) are standards for the healthcare industry, designed to improve the exchange of health data by interoperability. Both standards are constrained through what are known as Implementation Guides (IG) for specific use.

A FHIR Native Radiology Informatics Platform
FHIR is a new standard that is rapidly being adopted in healthcare. We describe and implement a Radiology informatics platform (RIS) that is FHIR native and incorporates the ability to execute AI algorithms to aid with the interpretation of scans. Our design utilises the FHIR workflow pattern as an application programming interface with functionality ...
