An Electrically Tunable Polarizer for a Fiber System Based on a Polarization-Dependent Beam Size Derived From a Liquid Crystal Lens

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
A broadband electrically tunable variable polarizer for fiber systems based on a liquid crystal lens is proposed and demonstrated. The polarization selectivity is based on a polarization-sensitive coupling efficiency to the fiber in the fiber system. For

Wide Bandwidth Silicon Nitride Strip-Loaded Grating Coupler on Lithium Niobate Thin Film

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
In this research, a vertical silicon nitride strip-loaded grating coupler on lithium niobate thin film was proposed, designed, and simulated. In order to improve the coupling efficiency and bandwidth, the parameters such as the SiO2 cladding layer ...

Fiber-coupled semiconductor waveguides as an efficient optical interface to a single quantum dipole [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2009
We theoretically investigate the interaction of a single quantum dipole with the modes of a fiber-coupled semiconductor waveguide. Through a combination of tight modal confinement and phase-matched evanescent coupling, we predict that approximately 70 % of the dipole's emission can be collected into a single mode optical fiber.

A study on laser-fiber coupling efficiency and ablation rate in femtosecond laser deep microdrilling

open access: yes, 2012
Laser microdrilling is a common micromachining operation in many industrial applications. This paper presents a new laser microdrilling technique in which a hollow-core fiber is employed to transmit femtosecond laser pulses to the target position.

Probability density function of fiber-coupling efficiency and temporal power spectrum of irradiance fluctuations in the anisotropic non-Kolmogorov satellite-to-ground downlink

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
As many related experimental and theoretical results are identified, scholars have found that the anisotropy of turbulence cells is indispensable in the atmospheric turbulence.

Bismuth doped fiber laser performance on effective fiber cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the past, bismuth doped fiber (BiDF) lasers, operating in the 1160-1300 nm wavelength range, have gained much attention as they are promising for many applications; including medical and astronomy.

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

Pixel-to-Pixel Fiber-Coupled Emissive Micro-Light-Emitting Diode Arrays

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2009
We report on an integrated fiber-coupled bi-linear micro-light-emitting diode array, serving as a portable microdisplay system. The fiber bundle transforms the bi-linearly arranged optical signals from the emissive array into a 6-by-8 pixel microdisplay,

Achromatic Flat Metasurface Fiber Couplers within Telecom Bands

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
We proposed a single metalens for fiber coupling within telecom bands. This proposed fiber coupler combined a single layer metalens and a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer.
