Enhanced Endoscopic Internal Drainage of Gastric Abscess Through Additively Manufactured Stents

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Postoperative gastric leaks are often treated with off‐label biliary double‐pigtail stents, yet conventional extruded designs are not optimized for leak anatomy, can migrate, and may limit abscess evacuation. PETALS is introduced to optimize transmural drainage geometry and enable patient‐specific 3D‐printable stents.

Strain intensity factor approach for predicting the strength of continuously reinforced metal matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes
A method was previously developed to predict the fracture toughness (stress intensity factor at failure) of composites in terms of the elastic constants and the tensile failing strain of the fibers.

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

A parametric study of fracture toughness of fibrous composite materials [PDF]

open access: yes
Impacts to fibrous composite laminates by objects with low velocities can break fibers giving crack-like damage. The damage may not extend completely through a thick laminate.

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Surface protection of graphite fabric/PMR-15 composites subjected to thermal oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Graphite fabric/PMR-15 laminates develop matrix cracks during long-term exposure in air at temperatures in the range of 500 to 600 F. This study was performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of incorporating graphite mat surface plies as a means of ...
