Fiberings with Fiber RP(k)

Acta Mathematica Sinica, English Series, 2005
Let k be non–negative integer. The unoriented bordism classes, which can be represented as [RP(ξk)] where ξk is a k–plane bundle, form an ideal of the unoriented bordism ring MO*. A group of generators of this ideal expressed by a base of MO* and a necessary and sufficient condition for a bordism class to belong to this ideal are given.

Optics of Fibers and Fiber Probes

1995
In laser medicine, light has to be transported from the laser to the location of treatment or, for tissue diagnostics, from the site of tissue fluorescence to the sensing equipment. The most effective and practical way of transportation for most laser wavelengths and most applications is the use of fiber optics.1 As illustrated in Fig.

Fibers for System-on-Fiber Applications

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference 2015, 2015
This paper reports ultrafast laser direct writing of optical components in multi-core rectangular shape fibers for sensing and fiber laser applications. We will discuss efforts to turn optical fibers from one-dimensional devices to three-dimensional devices.

Vacuum fiber-fiber coupler

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
Research and development carried out by the ISF Welding and Joining Institute of RWTH Aachen University has proven that combining high power laser and low vacuum atmosphere provides a welding performance and quality, which is comparable to electron beam welding. The developed welding machines are still using a beam forming which takes place outside the

Boron Fiber to Carbon Fiber

2016
This chapter reviews the author’s diversion from working with boron fiber composites to carbon fiber composites and the resulting establishment of the NASA-Virginia Tech Composites Program. Developments in test methods and free edge effects for carbon fiber composites are discussed.

Fibers and Fiber Coatings for IMCs

MRS Proceedings, 1994
AbstractThis paper presents a review of the current status of fibers and fiber coatings for intermetallic matrix composites (IMCs). The properties of commercial and developmental fibers are reviewed and their potential as reinforcements for various intermetallics discussed.

Optical Fibers and Fiber Preforms

1993
Several areas of current interest in fiber optics require knowledge of residual stress in glass optical fiber preforms and fibers [72,85,88,244,249]. First, the residual stress distribution determines the intrinsic strength of the fiber. If the stress at the surface is compressive, any resident microcrack would not tend to grow.
