Bidirectional fiber amplifiers
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1992The authors propose new bidirectional erbium-doped fiber amplifier repeaters for bidirectional fiber networks and OTDR fault detection. At each repeater the counterpropagating signals are separated, amplified separately, and then recombined. Signal separation is done by directional couplers with intrinsic 6-dB coupling loss, or by optical circulators ...

We examine the theory of optical amplification in long span single-mode fibers which have low levels of erbium dopant. When pumped from the transmitter end at a suitable wavelength, lightly doped fibers can form a distributed amplifier, capable of overcoming transmission losses due to the intrinsic attenuation of the host glass at the signal wavelength.

Theoretical investigation on Raman Fiber Amplifiers
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition, 2010The characterization of RFAs with bi-directional Raman pumped or co-propagating Raman pumped is studied. The effection to RFAs for pump power, initial signal power and fiber length is analyzed, which is to optimize and improve gain of RFASSs, so as to improve the performance of the amplifier.

Broadband Fiber Optic Amplifiers
Optical Fiber Communication Conference and International Conference on Quantum Information, 2001Broadband fiber optic amplifiers are key elements of DWDM systems and enablers for optical networks. New amplifier technologies for extending gain-bandwidth and equalizing the power deviation among WDM signals are discussed toward the next generation of ultra.-high-capacity DWDM systems.
