InGaAs PIN photodetectors integrated on silicon-on-insulator waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
InGaAs PIN photodetectors heterogeneously integrated on silicon-on-insulator waveguides are fabricated and characterized. Efficient evanescent coupling between silicon-on-insulator waveguides and InGaAs photodetectors is achieved.

Enhanced signal coupling in wide-field fiber-coupled imagers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
Some high-performance imaging systems, including wide angle "monocentric" lenses made of concentric spherical shells, form a deeply curved image surface coupled to focal plane sensors by optical fiber bundles with a curved input and flat output face. However, refraction at the angled input facet limits the range of input angles, even for fiber bundles ...

High-energy similariton fiber laser using chirally coupled core fiber [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2012
We present a high-energy amplifier similariton laser based on a chirally coupled core (3C) fiber. Chirped pulse energies up to 61 nJ at 3.3 W average power are obtained with effectively single-mode output. The pulses can be compressed with a simple grating compressor to durations below 90 fs.

Cracking the Code: Genotype–Phenotype Correlation Models in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Sarcoglycanopathies are among the most severe limb‐girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD), though milder presentations have been described. These diseases are primarily caused by missense variants, but the limited predictability of their effect on protein maturation, complex formation, and transport has hindered reliable genotype ...

Study on the Influence of Atmospheric Light Intensity Scintillation Effect on Optical Fiber Coupling Efficiency

open access: yesPhotonics
Light intensity flicker is the most basic and important effect of turbulence. Fiber coupling efficiency is the primary parameter that ensures the system’s communication quality.

Coupling an epitaxial quantum dot to a fiber-based external-mirror microcavity

open access: yes, 2009
We report the coupling of individual InAs quantum dots (QDs) to an external-mirror microcavity. The external mirror is bonded to a fiber and positioned above a semiconductor sample consisting of a QD-containing GaAs layer on top of a distributed Bragg ...

Fiber-coupled dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguides

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
Fiber in- and out-coupling of radiation guided by dielectric-loaded surface plasmon-polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs) is realized using intermediate tapered dielectric waveguides. The waveguide structures fabricated by large-scale UV-lithography consist of 1-microm-thick polymer ridges tapered from 10-microm-wide ridges deposited directly on a magnesium ...

A Concept of a Digital and Traceable Manufacturing Documentation Based on Formalized Process Description Applied on Composite Aircraft Moveable

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The documentation of component manufacture has become an essential part of today's production processes, especially for the analysis and optimization of production or component design with regard to structural performance, economic efficiency, and sustainability.

Coupling Poisson and Jacobi structures on foliated manifolds

open access: yes, 2004
Let M be a differentiable manifold endowed with a foliation F. A Poisson structure P on M is F-coupling if the image of the annihilator of TF by the sharp-morphism defined by P is a normal bundle of the foliation F.

Phase locking of coupled lasers with many longitudinal modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Detailed experimental and theoretical investigations on two coupled fiber lasers, each with many longitudinal modes, reveal that the behavior of the longitudinal modes depends on both the coupling strength as well as the detuning between them. For low to
