Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle): A potential source of bast fiber

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2019
Roselle is a bast fiber, and its utilization as a textile fiber for the development of textile products is still scanty. A work has been attempted to develop yarn from Roselle.

Effect of Surface Modification of Himalayan Nettle Fiber and Characterization of the Morphology, Physical and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAUTEX Research Journal, 2022
The process of retting bast fiber plants for the production of long fiber has presented major challenges. Water retting, dew retting, chemical extraction, and micro-organism (fungi, enzymes) techniques were applied to the extraction of natural fibers ...

A REVIEW ON NATURAL FIBERS: EXTRACTION PROCESS AND PROPERTIES OF GRASS FIBERS

open access: yesINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (IJMET), 2020
Today, research on natural fibers as composite reinforcement aims to study the extraction process, physical properties, chemical properties and mechanical properties of natural fiber. Natural fiber attracts researchers because it has high specific strength, light density, low cost, good mechanical properties, nonabrasive, environmentally friendly and ...

Comparative Analysis of Coir Fibers from Mature and Immature Coconut Husk Waste from Kenyan Coastal Region

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Coconut husks remain as a waste once coconuts or tender water is extracted from the fruit and yields coir fibers of varying quality upon extraction. The husk waste extracts were treated using 20% NaOH for 3 h, rinsed with distilled water, then dried in ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Design and Experimental Evaluation of a Pulsating Rubbing-Based Banana Fiber Extractor

open access: yesAgriculture
Banana fiber, as a naturally biodegradable material, exhibits excellent mechanical properties and considerable application potential. However, conventional rotary blade scraping extractors often cause significant fiber damage during extraction, thereby ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
