Interrogation unit for fiber Bragg grating sensors that uses a slanted fiber grating [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2004
A novel interrogation technique for fiber Bragg gratings is presented. It is based on measuring the characteristics of the outgoing near-field radiation from a tilted fiber grating. This scheme was experimentally checked and was found to offer a wide wavelength interrogation range as well as a good linearity, stability, and wavelength resolution.

Silver Ion‐Mediated [hk1]‐Oriented Sb2Se3 Crystal Growth for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ag+‐mediated hydrothermal crystal engineering promotes preferential [hk1]‐oriented growth of Sb2Se3 via an ultrathin MoOx interlayer, improving crystallinity and suppressing non‐radiative recombination. The optimized Ag+ treatment photocathode delivers 24.7 mA cm−2 at 0 VRHE and improved stability, revealing an ion‐modulated route to high‐performance ...

Residual strain monitoring during composite manufacturing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This work explores a new possibility in accurate measurement of multi-axial residual strains during the production of composite structures. It investigates the usability of the polarization dependent loss (PDL) of an optical fibre Bragg grating as a ...

Supermodes of grating-coupled multimode waveguides and application to mode conversion between copropagating modes mediated by backward Bragg scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
An analysis of multimode waveguides where several modes are coupled via quasiperiodic perturbations is presented. The supermodes (or eigenmodes) of the structure are derived and orthonormality considerations are discussed. In addition, a new type of mode

Indirect Band Edge and Chain‐Locked Linear Dichroism in the Quasi‐1D Van der Waals Antiferromagnet AgCrP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
AgCrP2S6 reveals a momentum‐indirect band edge (≈1.35 eV) and chain‐locked linear dichroism: the first direct transitions emerge at 1.6–1.8 eV for E||a. Resonant Raman and photoemission corroborate this assignment. In ACPS/graphene heterostructures, photocurrent turns on above ≈1.5 eV and follows the same polarization selection rules (anisotropy ≈0.53),

Plasmonic Optical Fiber-Grating Immunosensing: A Review

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Plasmonic immunosensors are usually made of a noble metal (in the form of a film or nanoparticles) on which bioreceptors are grafted to sense analytes based on the antibody/antigen or other affinity mechanism.

Novel Functional Materials via 3D Printing by Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective systematically analyzes strategies for incorporating functionalities into 3D‐printed materials via Vat Photopolymerization (VP). It explores the spectrum of achievable functionalities in recently reported novel materials—such as conductive, energy‐storing, biodegradable, stimuli‐responsive, self‐healing, shape‐memory, biomaterials, and

Exact bidirectional X-wave solutions in fiber Bragg gratings

open access: yes, 2017
We find exact solutions describing bidirectional pulses propagating in fiber Bragg gratings. They are derived by solving the coupled-mode theory equations and are expressed in terms of products of modified Bessel functions with algebraic functions ...

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.
