Modelling of the glass fiber length and the glass fiber length distribution in the compounding of short glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastics

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
The use of short glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastics for the production of highly stressed parts in the plastics processing industry has experienced an enormous boom in the last few years. The reasons for this are primarily the improvements to the stiffness and strength properties brought about by fiber reinforcement.

Note on the ineffective length of a fiber

Mechanics of Materials, 1992
Abstract A general definition is given of the concept of ineffective length of a fiber, which is of use in the statistical theories of composite strength. The ineffective length, as formulated, may also serve as a measure of the total supporting capability of a fiber.

Variability of Fiber-Length Parameters

Textile Research Journal, 1972
The variability of fiber-length parameters obtained from the Baer Sorter and the Digital Fibrograph has been estimated. It has been found that the two methods have the same order of variability. The need for considering Type II errors, while detecting small changes in fibei lengths, has been brought out.

Characterization of Fiber Length in Slivers

Textile Research Journal, 1982
An index is proposed for characterizing the length of fibers in slivers based on the Lindsley technique. This index is simple, time-saving, and inexpensive to run and it possesses high sensitivity. Results obtained with cotton slivers are described and compared with other methods.

Measurements of beat length and perturbation length in long single-mode fibers

Optics Letters, 2000
Experimental results of measurement of the beat length and the differential group delay of several types of long single-mode fiber are presented. The proposed measurement technique is based on a polarization-sensitive analysis of the backscattered signal and allows one to calculate the correlation length of the random birefringence affecting the fiber.

Stability of polycrystalline AgHal-fiber characteristics with fiber length

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
In development of various devices on the basis of IR fibers is very important to know such their optical characteristics as spectral transmission, numerical aperture, far-field divergency with various conditions of fiber launching and, in particular, stability of these characteristics with fiber length.

Fiber Length Statistics for a Random Assembly of Aligned Fibers

Textile Research Journal, 1985
Formulas for the moments of fiber length properties for those fibers that intersect a segment of an assembly of aligned fibers are derived. These, where relevant. have been reconciled with earlier formulas given in the literature.
