Deformation of a flexible fiber in a viscous flow past an obstacle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the deformation and transport of elastic fibers in a viscous Hele-Shaw flow with curved streamlines. The variations of the global velocity and orientation of the fiber follow closely those of the local flow velocity. The ratios of the curvatures

Size-dependent retention of elongate mineral particles in human lungs: modeling and implications for risk assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
IntroductionLung deposition of elongate amphibole particles is an important process impacting the risk of cancer. There is, however, a significant gap in scientific literature characterizing the role of particle size in the differences observed for ...

Asymmetric Mach-Zehnder fiber interferometer test of the anisotropy of the speed of light

open access: yes, 2009
Two optical fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometers were constructed in an environment with a temperature stabilization of better than 1 mK per day. One interferometer with a length of 2 m optical fiber in each arm with the main direction of the arms parallel

Investigation of the Fiber Length and the Mechanical Properties of Waste Recycled from Continuous Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polypropylene

open access: yesRecycling, 2023
This paper explores the mechanical recycling of continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTPs) waste into injection molded products, focusing on the influence of recycling parameters on fiber length and mechanical properties.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

GbSER02 Interacts With GhVOZ1 to Promote Fiber Elongation by Modulating Gibberellin Synthesis in Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The elongation period of cotton fiber development is crucial for ensuring cotton quality. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying fiber elongation remain unclear.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Exploration of Candidate Genes for Fiber Length in Gossypium mustelinum Based on BSA-seq

open access: yesNantong Daxue xuebao. Ziran kexue ban, 2021
Fiber length is one of the important characteristics of cotton fiber quality. It is of great significance to explore fiber length genes for breeding of cotton varieties with elite fiber quality. In the first phase of the study, 15 quantitative trait loci(
