Quantum key distribution using a triggered quantum dot source emitting near 1.3 microns

open access: yes, 2007
We report the distribution of a cryptographic key, secure from photon number splitting attacks, over 35 km of optical fiber using single photons from an InAs quantum dot emitting ~1.3 microns in a pillar microcavity.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

A Novel Method for Accurate Cotton Fiber Length Distribution Measurement in Resource-Limited Settings

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Accurate and efficient measurement of the cotton fiber length distribution is crucial for optimizing yarn quality. However, traditional methods require substantial sample quantities, making them less practical in resource-constrained environments.

Tensile Behavior of Self-Compacting Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Evaluated by Different Test Methods

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Due to the mechanical properties related closely to the distribution of steel fibers in concrete matrix, the assessment of tensile strength of self-compacting steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is significant for the engineering application.

A sequential addition and migration method for generating microstructures of short fibers with prescribed length distribution

open access: yesComputational Mechanics, 2022
We describe an algorithm for generating fiber-filled volume elements for use in computational homogenization schemes. The algorithm permits to prescribe both a length distribution and a fiber-orientation tensor of second order, and composites with ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Structure Property for Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2005
The mechanical properties of fiber - reinforced thermoplastics depend on the fiber length and fiber orientation distribution which them - selves are influenced by the processing condition .

Needleless electrospinning of uniform nanofibers using spiral coil spinnerets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers were prepared by a needleless electrospinning technique using a rotating spiral wire coil as spinneret. The influences of coil dimension (e.g., coil length, coil diameter, spiral distance, and wire diameter) and operating ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Variability of Fiber AFIS Length and Maturity within and Among Upland Cotton Cultivars

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
One of the current commercially available and accepted instruments for simultaneous cotton fiber length and maturity measurement is the advanced fiber information system (AFIS), which tests an individualized (single) fiber in lint samples.
