Myelin movements in mature mammalian peripheral nerve fibers
Journal of Morphology, 1974AbstractMature mouse and cat peripheral nerve fibers have been examined in vitro by time‐lapse photography. Some Schmidt‐Lanterman clefts which were open at the start closed later; other were seen to open and then to close, some of them more than once.

The distribution of myelinated nerve fibers in the mature opossum esophagus
Journal of the Autonomic Nervous System, 1991Myelination of nerve fibers could be important in establishing normal esophageal peristalsis. We therefore examined the general distribution and the age of appearance of myelinated nerve fibers in the smooth-muscle part of the esophagus of the American opossum. Tissues stained with thionein and Sudan black B were examined by light microscopy.

Delay in the maturation of muscle fibers in infants with congenital hypotonia
Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1978Muscle biopsies of hypotonic children have shown delayed maturation of a fetal type of muscle fibers: subsarcolemmal halo devoid of activity for mitochondrial dehydrogenases, type II predominance and in some cases abnormal dispersion of fiber diameter. Fiber subtypes within group II were also abnormal.

Effect of Fiber Maturity on Bundle and Single‐Fiber Strength of Upland Cotton
Crop Science, 2019Maturity and strength are two of the physical properties that determine the quality and value of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Their relationship has been poorly understood due to technical difficulties of directly measuring maturity and strength from individual fibers.

A rapid measurement for cotton breeders of maturity and fineness from developing and mature fibers
Textile Research Journal, 2013The Cottonscope simultaneously measures a cotton fiber’s maturity and fineness using a small amount of fiber sample. A program of testing was devised to establish the potential and capabilities of the Cottonscope to rapidly and accurately measure maturity and fineness of small quantities of near-isogenic cotton lines (NILs), and to examine the use of ...

A New Method for Determining Maturity of Cotton Fibers
Textile Research Journal, 1975The alkali centrifuge technique has been extensively studied in relation to maturity, and the results have shown that it is a simple, fast, and highly reproducible test method for determining the maturity of cotton fibers either in the raw state or after soxhelet extraction to remove waxes, provided there is no damage to the primary wall.

Determining Cotton Fiber Maturity by Image Analysis
Textile Research Journal, 1994Image analysis presents a quick, reliable, unbiased technique for determining cotton fiber maturity. This research entails developing sampling techniques for cotton fiber cross sections and creating a computer program to measure fiber characteristics directly by image analysis.

Maturity and Dynamic Elastic Modulus of Cotton Fibers
Textile Research Journal, 1978The polarized-light method was used to select mature and immature individual fibers from each of four maturity standard cotton samples. The dynamic elastic modulus, or the sonic modulus, of the selected fibers was determined by the pulse-propagation method at different static strain levels, and continuous dynamic modulus-strain curves and dynamic ...

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2019
Cellulose is the key constituent of natural fibers and its proportion significantly varies with the growth of the plant. Hence, a study on the influence of plant maturity on fiber properties is essential to recognize optimal fiber source. In this investigation, cellulose fibers were successfully extracted from Thespesia populnea tree barks of ...

[Maturation and aging of elastic fibers].
Zeitschrift fur Hautkrankheiten, 1990We give a review of the maturation and aging processes of elastic fibers. Elastic fibers of adult human skin are composed of elastin (amorphous matrix) and surrounded by microfibrils (structural glycoproteins). The physiological aging of elastic fibers is a continuous process starting at the age of 40 or 50 and reaching its final state in the senium ...
