Smart Bioinspired Material‐Based Actuators: Current Challenges and Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
This work gathers, in a review style, an extensive and comprehensive literature overview on the development of autonomous actuators based on synthetic materials, bringing together valuable knowledge from several studies. Furthermore, the article identifies the fundamental principles of actuation mechanisms and defines key parameters to address the size

Design and Characterization of a Dual‐Mode Soft Robotic Flapping Propeller With Pneumatic Stiffness Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A novel soft robotic propeller overcomes traditional efficiency‐flexibility tradeoffs via a hybrid pneumatic‐cable actuation strategy. This architecture enables active stiffness modulation with dual‐mode locomotion: tunable biomimetic swimming and earthworm‐inspired wriggling for confined spaces.

Cycling fiber metal laminates: Considerations, test setup and results

open access: yes, 2015
The development of fiber metal laminates to multi-functional materials by embedding heater elements in the laminate extends their field of application. Fiber metal laminates with embedded heater elements are likely to be used for the de- and anti-icing ...

Cardiac morphological and morphometric analysis of Ardea alba

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Ardea alba (Linnaeus, 1758) is a widely distributed heron species whose cardiovascular morphology remains poorly described. This study aimed to characterize the cardiac morphology and morphometry of adult A. alba. Ten specimens were analyzed using radiographic, morphometric, histological, scanning electron microscopy, and three‐dimensional ...

Numerical and Experimental Assessment of Oxygen Distribution in a Perfusion Bioreactor to Mimic the Osteochondral Niche

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oxygen supply is a critical parameter in 3D cell cultivation using bioreactors. Since bioreactor designs often prioritise practical constraints, understanding the oxygen supply dynamics of the media is crucial for achieving either uniform or spatially controlled oxygen delivery.

Experimental Study on the Impact Behaviour of Metal-fiber Laminates

open access: yes, 2010
The impact response of metal-fiber laminates has been investigated. Measurements were obtained for impact force and energy dissipation. The failure processes in the impact-loaded were initially investigated by examining the front and rear surfaces of the
