Recycling of Fiber-Metal Laminates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2011
Fiber metal laminates provide superior mechanical properties over conventional metal alloys. However, they show a very poor recyclability due to its composite nature. Unique recycling technique is developed to recycle both the glass fiber and the aluminum alloy. The process consists of a thermal delamination and an alloy refining step.

Optimal Strength Design for Fiber-Metal Laminates and Fiber-reinforced Plastic Laminates

open access: yesJournal of Composite Materials, 2010
Optimal strength design of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) laminates and fiber-metal laminates (FML) is studied in this article. An optimization approach that integrates the particle swarm optimization algorithm and a general finite element code ANSYS was developed.

The Bearing Strength of Fiber Metal Laminates

Journal of Composite Materials, 2006
The bearing strength, in particular the edge distance sensitivity, of several fiber metal laminates of the GLARE family is experimentally evaluated. The behavior of the fiber layer is investigated in detail to obtain a better understanding of its failure mode.

Forming and drilling of fiber metal laminates – A review

open access: yesJournal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2018
In aviation industries, most of the stiffened structural components are manufactured by forming and laminating process. Combination of several conventional manufacturing processes is required in modern industries in hybrid laminate production. Fiber metal laminates undergo various joining process during assembly of aero-structures.

Investigation on Formability of Fiber Metal Laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In this study, the formability of fiber metal laminates (FML) used in aerospace industry were experimentally examined. Al5754-H22 sheets in two different thicknesses (0.6 and 1.2 mm) were used in top and bottom layers of FML specimens. Carbon fiber plates made of prepreg carbon fiber fabrics were placed in the middle layer of FML specimens. In order to
